He'd be a great understudy for Soldado if it happens. Again, if it doesn't, it doesn't, but it's not his fault all the parasites that have attached themselves to him had dreams of a bigger payday than reality warranted. We need to remember that agents and third parties get their claws into these young Brazilian players early and their fates aren't always their own. I don't hold all the near misses against him. If we miss out again, good luck to him at Inter or wherever. He seems a good kid.

My advice to Levy/Baldini: IF you were even exploring Damiao as an option - take that money, call Benfica and offer that amount for Rodrigo.

Can anyone give a good reason why would this turn out any differently this time?

Snarf, you are not a fan of Damiao? Or just think Rodrigo is better?

From previous attempts, I'm not too fussed either way. If he comes, I think he'll give us a genuine alternative option to be able to rotate/rest Soldado, rather than overwork him due to a big drop off in the quality of replacement. Of be doesn't, it's no loss.
To be honest, that's the way I feel about Willian too. After the summer we've had so far, I'm more than happy. I have faith in Baldini to go out and get us the required players.

Last window you guys would tear your own nuts off for Damiao to sign

It's because he was new and exciting still. A young Brazilian striker who knocked them in for fun. Since then his name has been written so many times his name is as exotic as Alan Smith. He is still a good player, but the excitemement has gone. Hasn't scored as many this season for them. I feel he should have moved when he had the chance. He may have lost his big chance now.

I'm just a huge fan of Rodrigo and his potential at this point. He can also operate as a wide forward which gives him extra value. But, as far as a future #9, he's one of my favorite talents.

What's your take on Muriel?

Another fantastic player. I think he's got a bit of Suarez in him minus the douchebaggery and cannibalism. Likes to drop deep and drive forward. I think he'd be fantastic in behind a striker like Soldado.

I'd still happily see LD join us for something reasonable like we paid for Paulinho. He's a major upgrade on Defoe, Ade or Kane. There are arguably better around at a similar price but the argument is always 'would they actually come to us?'. Starting the season with just Soldado is a big risk. I'd be glad to get any striker of LD's standard right now.
