Is there a justifiable reason why we wait until the end of the window to buy?

I mean we might get the player a bit cheaper but the player then feels we're cheapskates and maybe don't value then as much as we say.

Thoughts please.

Is there a justifiable reason why people wait until the end of the window to ask this question ?

Think we've done this one before. All a bit of a game of poker on the back of a merry-go-round of cash for those clubs with smaller bank balances

e.g Broro are buying that striker for £11m or something but no doubt needed the Woodgate deal to be done first.

Smaller clubs hold out for more money but often give in towards the end of the window when they need the cash for their own buys. Bigger clubs know this but also need to ensure that they get a player in before they get to the business end of the season.

So who bluffs and who folds and when but activity tends to get pushed to the end of the window as a result

It doesn't really matter in Jan. But teams should look to sign players as early as possible in August to give them time to train with their new teams.

Player A doesn't want to play for team B anymore.
Team C have put in a low offer for player A.
Player A wants to go to Team C.
Team B are holding out for more.

Team B start panicking, they want the money for player A but team C haven't put in an improved offer.
Team C put in a low offer.
Team B have no choice but to accept.

Everyone wins
Except team B. :(

Plus it is quite exciting. The more important question is have we ever bought anyone in this window that has turned out to be a genuine success?

yes I get all this but Real once said of uis, "it was like dealing with someone who wanted to buy a refrigerator on hire purchase". This hardly gives the rest of the world a good impression of us

And what? We're tough in the deal. We're not push-overs for price. And we're not afraid to put in a few price mechanisms in our favour.

Who gives a fuck. "When we're negotiating, you bring your lawyers - because we know finance." If anything it enhances our reputation - we mean business.

I must say NUFC grabbing Dennis Wise is HILARIOUS.

Do you reckon they've brought him in to mentor Joey Barton?

I must be completely on my own because I believe that our dealings in the market are first class.

I wonder what people think sometimes, you have an interest in a player, we contact club and or agent, club contacts player and agent, player asks agent who says ok and we sign him, end off.

No negotiating with club over fee or structure of fee or timings of payments etc, selling club doesn't worry about losing player and doesn't think about who's going to play in his position or if they need to recruit a replacement first, and player says via agent I want this much and this and that and we say ok, no looking to move players out to balance squad and books so player signs and everybody is happy.

I'm sure some people think this is what happens, just like it probably does on these football manager games that people play.

No matter what industry multi million £ deals tend to take time, they are complex and all parties need satisfying that to do a deal is in their interests. This is obviously the hardest part and needs delicate as well as strong negotiating and even after all of this has taken place the lawyers still need sdatisfying before ratifying any deal.

Well done Ramos, Levy & Comolli as yet again we are going to emerge from a transfer window in better shape than when the window opened.

That wasn't the last window, was it?

Yes.

And spot on Legend10 - deals take time. Especially when £Ms are being laid out. All the deals that seemingly go through quickly would have been going on for weeks beforehand, but somehow manage to stay away from the public eye.

As was verified yesterday when it emerged that we had been discussing a deal for Woodagte with Boro and the player for a number of weeks.

To be honest, the fact that we have wrapped up Hutton and Woody two days ahead is pretty impressive by our standards
