In a previous thread about next seasons possible line up i suggested a team of -

---------------Mcgregor-------------

--Hutton woodgate jarque bale----

-----------------King----------------
Lennon------------------------Capel
----------------Modric---------------

-----------Berbatov Keane----------

Just wondering what peoples opinion is on Ledders playing as a DM, We know he can play the position well on previous attempts, he has all the attributes to do it well, and it might be good for his 'dodgy' knee. Obviously he will always be a better centre back, but if he is going to keep getting a reoccurring problems it may make sense to try him out in a slightly less demanding position.

If we were to buy a top notch centre back like Jarque or Ben haim, then if gives us the option to play King at the back if Jarque or woody were to get injured. Likewise if King is injured Zokora can step in as a replacement DM.

why weaken our defence by pushing our best defender into midfield

I would rather we got a specialist defensive midfielder in. Keep Ledders in defence when he is available.

I think his knee would be under just as much pressure in DM than it would in defence. If he is fully fit then he should be playing CB no question. A new top class CB will be coming in but hopefully Ledley gets over his problems

This would be good.....

-----------kameni------------

----Woodgate----Jarque------

Alves-------King-----------Bale

-------Diarra---Gattuso--------

-----------Modric--------------

-------Eto'o----Keane----------

5-3-2 style with King just ahead of the 2 centre backs.

Sorry but McGregor and Jarque and worse players than Cerny and Kaboul. No where near good enough for our current first 11, let alone next season's.

i fail to understand how playing in midfield will cause less stress to the knee.
most of the game is played in midfield and so surely the closer to the action you are, the more you move and so the more stress his knee will be put under.

hence it's actually quite the opposite

I completely agree. I play both centre back and centre midfield, and would argue that midfield is the far more stressful of the two on your knees. In fact the only positions that might give you an easier run are up front and on the wing, just because 'getting stuck in' isn't in your job description...

Why so many threads on the same thing? Couldn't this have been added to one of the other hundred or so

From personal experience I always preferred to play in front of the defence rather than in defence when i use to play a few years back. And I too had a dodgy knee at the time (though due to coming off a motorbike). it just means you dont need to rely on your pace in DM, therefore not over stretching it. Your also less likely to be go for last ditch sliding tackles and the like where you can so easily get a knock.
Instead he could play like Dunga use to hardly going to ground, but using his good positioning and passing ability.

I agree It would weaken our defence not having him there, but if we cant find a decent DM to purchase then it might be a good option. even if for just some games, then some as a Centre back with woody.

I can certainly see that. I tend to read the game a lot easier from centre back though and so tend to do less twisting and turning there. I've just dislocated my knee, so am going to be out for awhile. But, chatting with the physios they seem to think I'll be alright if I put the work in. I guess I'll get some first hand experience of which is easier on the knees next season!

If King is fit, he has to start at CB.

1, He's stated he doesn't really like the DM role
2, He is the best CB in the country (maybe even the world) when fit

Why are people trying to make our CB DMs???? Has Kaboul even played there? it's crazy.

True, but I can understand why people would put Kaboul forward as a potential DM. His technique and physicality would be perfect there and he would be less likely to make really costly mistakes.

Didn't we go through this King at defensive mid-field at the end of Pleat the Bleat's riegn?

If he's fit King for central defence surely?

I love Ledders, but IF he is going to be 100% for much of next season, then he has to play alongside Woody and we have to buy a class DM...Zok's a squaddie at best.

Sadly, I don't think we can afford to rely on Ledders based on the current situation, but who knows, maybe he's fitter than we know...

No, too much running for his knees. Better to convert Kaboul into that role. Anyway, Kaboul has a better shot than King.
