Nice to see us actually secure one! It was getting a bit like my old mates who would always get knocked back on the dancefloor at the Lyceum on a Monday night. Come to think of it some one eventually said yes to them as well:roll:

King and Woodgate potentially the best centre back pairing in world football IF IF IF they can stay fit long enough.

In terms of potential ability and natural talent he's up there with Ledley and if we can keep them both fit we are going to have one shit hot central defence! They will both benefit from having a real quality partner alongside them!

Good signing, but our bet the club doctor is keeping his fingers crossed he didn't miss anything in the medical!

I think he is a right sided CB, remember he had a great game against Woolwich last season against Henry who likes to play out on the left

This is a wicked signing. Woodgate is a fantastic defender, him and king could reign supreme at the back if they could only stay fit. Woodgate is exactly what we need at the back right now. Immense experience and quality, great in the air, great in the tackle, reads the game well and decent pace and a leader on the pitch. All for just 7million! Rock on !!!!!

Mixed feelings about this transfer to be honest. For the money we have payed (7m) this seems like excellent business when you consider Rio @ 30m to Manure and Yes, when fit...he is a World Class Defender and on paper will be the dogs nuts alongside King but He has been blighted with injury throughout his career and thats all to far a familiar story at the Lane.

Quote from "The proud Cockerel Site"
"His time at the Bernabeu was summed up in his final game when he had the chance to impress the English public in a Champions League game against Arsenal but had to go off injured after just eight minutes. He would later be named as the worst signing of the 21st century by readers of Spain’s most high-profile football paper, Marca."

Only time will tell on this one I guess Eek

Hmmm... I'm a little surprised by the lack of people getting concerned about his injury problems, many of you seem to think he will somehow become a fully fit, never to be injured player all of a sudden. Not even the best fitness professionals in the world can predict how a footballers fitness is going to play out so why are we taking this risk?
What we do need is a seasoned, experienced, quality center back... which is exactly what Woodgate is. But what we DON'T need, is an injury prone player, which is exactly what Woodgate also is. And he's 28, he's not getting any younger, injuries could get worse and for longer from here on in. It's a massive shame that players with such quality can be so injury prone, it seems like such a waste.
"If it weren't for his injuries, one of the big four would have gone for him."
Quote from BBC Sport football analyst Alan Hansen. It's true, they most likely would have. And this is yet another difference between us and the big four. They wouldn't risk signing such an injury prone player, despite his quality, whereas we, in desperation, do risk it. I just don't know why the club arn't scarred of him being a waste of money.

My Mobile alerts have Woodgate available for his Debut against Everton

I hope he makes his debut against Everton and not at home against Man U. That would be eerily similar to Dean Richards, a central defender, whom we bought for about the same amount of money, and, if memory serves me correctly, made his debut and even scored in the home game vs Man U when we were 3-0 up at HT ..but ended up losing 5-3.
