Squad number anyone?

13, 14, 27, 28, 29, 31, 34, 39-43 and a host of higher numbers are all free according to the Official Site.

It's 28 I've read it in all the papers for weeks "Spurs after Jonathan Woodgate 28"

BTW Dontcha just love the protocol on SC, I went straight to Transfer rumours for this thread and couldn't find it!
Of course I couldn't it's no longer a rumour so it's now just Spurs chat.
Tha's the power of Stoof's stamp for you.

He's played in 19 out of Boro's 23 league games this term according to Spurs offish site. That doesn't sound like an injury prone player to me, in fact, only Kaboul of our CB's has got 19 appearances this season.

36 for them last year too

Just going forward, we're gonna go with "Wooders" as his nickname to go with "Ledders".

Is this correct?

We've signed a good footballer with leadership ability. His recent appearance record seems better than most of us would think. On balance I'd say a good signing - did he really play 36 out of 38 last year ? - if he's not injured much I'd say a fucking really good signing. Quality, experience & leadership - you can't say we haven't bought exactly what was needed.

(I wonder if we had a change of heart about Downing, but instead of letting on, offered to leave Downing if they let us have a sniff of Woodgate)

I hope he can keep up that fitness record, because he's a quality player, even though he's been a bit below par this season, by all account. It still worries me that over the past ten seasons he's made more or less the same number of appearances as Gardner, but fingers crossed.

I'm really excited about Woodgate signing for us. I'm sure there are many neutrals who rate him above (dare I say it) our own Ledley King...

With those two fit we've got one of the best CB pairings in the league and could be looking very rosy for the near future.

From the Sun:

YES! I'M OFF TO ARSENAL (OH NO YOU'RE NOT, WOODY!)

Jonathan Woodgate last night joined Tottenham in a £7million deal - despite believing he was on his way to Arsenal after a bizarre transfer merry-go-round.

Ex-England defender Woodgate became the most wanted player in Britain yesterday as Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill also made a last-ditch attempt to sign him and had a £7m bid accepted by Middlesbrough. But Woodgate was also convinced that Arsenal were trying to lure him after agents tried to engineer a move to Tottenham's bitter rivals and television and radio stations reported that a deal had been agreed.

Woodgate was anxious to talk to Arsenal and even asked close pals in the game about the Gunners - until Arsene Wenger insisted they did not want him.
Boss Wenger said: "There is no truth in it at all. We have never been in touch with Middlesbrough about Jonathan Woodgate."

It left Tottenham fuming as they had already agreed personal terms with Woodgate and were unhappy that Boro seemed to be hawking him around to drive a better deal. Villa also entered the race yesterday after Woodgate snubbed Newcastle at the weekend with O'Neill (above) placing a bid after Swedish defender Olof Mellberg agreed to join Juventus in the summer.

Woodgate, 28, has agreed a three-and-a-half year deal with Tottenham worth £65,000-a-week which makes him the highest-paid player at the club ahead of Ledley King and Robbie Keane.

That's some good spin. They could have said he'd chosen us ahead of Arsenal but it seems today was a better day to kick us.

so what was the hold up...

that picture seems to be in the day time, as it looks naturally lit

if Ledders and Woody can play 20 games a season together that would be great, and then hopefully they can synchronise their diaries so one is injured when the other is fit

Date, Time = 2008-01-28 16:52:08 of the photo incase anyone was interested.

Now that I find hard to believe... Not just because every other outlet that has reported this story has commented on how his wage at Boro was above our wage ceiling, and would subsequently be taking a pay cut...

I find most of the article hard to believe. They just seemed to have used the SSN story about Arsenal being the third club and elaborated. It's ironic that the whole article seems to be based on this and yet the only quote is from Wenger saying they weren't interested.
