I don't think he is wildly reliable but there's not much here other than we inquired and that could be new news or old news or anything in between. AG has said all summer this is a player we like as an alternate to Bastoni but too expensive. Unless that's changed, and there's no report it has, he may just have gotten some old info on us asking about the price and shared it out.

Chelsea have also been interested in Gvardiol for a while... and with Christensen and Rüdiger gone I bet they will keep an extra eye on any openings/movements regarding Gvardiol.

I do think he will stay at Leipzig though. Leipzig don't need to sell and being able to keep Nkunku is a big signal towards players like Gvardiol. With CL again next season as well.

I think Leipzig are pricing him out of a move this summer. No way we throw £80m in one go anywhere this summer especially not a centre half. And I wouldn’t want the club to anyway. Could be better spent elsewhere

O'Keefe on the thread says it's unlikely as he'd cost almost £100m. That's better invested elsewhere methinks.
If we got him and Spence did a Dele Alli and hit the ground running at the top level we would be absolutely formidable though

What I don't get is why they put a €65m release clause in Nkunku's new contract next season but would ask for considerably more for Gvardiol this summer.

Was Nkunku's contract running down or something?

Might be alone here but I’d much prefer the 25/30m plus GLC for Torres than 80m on gvardiol

Torres is decent player but he has never played in a back3 - neither for Villareal or Spain. He has flaws in his game.
Main difference between him & Gvardiol is, Gvardiol makes the forward line better.

The number of through balls & long balls he fed to Nkunku is numerous. Nkunku 22 goal season - one of the key players in those goals is Gvardiol's vision and ability to play through those balls.
Thats why he is expensive and thats why IMO he is worth it.

If we sell Bergwijn & Winks for 45m, we will actually be 20m in profit. We do have the money if all these reports are to be believed. There are only hand ful of players in world we can try & spend that big amount.

IMHO, Gvardiol is world class potential -given our forward line is already good, it is ok to spend big on him

I think Gvardiol would be the best big money signing we could make right now but all the noise seems to suggest no one will get him this summer.

His deal ran until 2024, he would have gone for far less than 65m next summer

Makes sense then. Gets a tidy pay bump, Leipzig get a better price and all of Europe will try and get him at a relative bargain price.

I still find it mad that we got Vertonghen and Alderweireld for less than £30m combined.

This guy is almost certainly the best defender we are targeting in this window (far better than Bastoni IMO) but the inflation in the transfer market really is unreal.

That said, the going rate is the going rate and I would personally like us to invest the £80m not only to get him in for Conte but also to send out a message to other big clubs that we’re here and we mean business.

Gvardiol >>> Bastoni just so we're all clear. Yes I'm serious, and it's not particularly debatable.

But this isn't going to happen, not for £80m.

I guess the only thing you could say with Gvardiol is that at his age you could potentially bring him in on a 6 year deal which could be handy in terms of amortisation for FFP.

He was. But this is one of the top talents in the world. At worst there is resale value because of his age(which pool won’t get with VVd)

Agree ; It wont be like United wasting 80m on Maguire. 80m on this player is worth it.

I'd rather stick 100m (thereabouts) on Osimhen. Goals are the most important commodity in football.
