fair play about the champions league, but you get the picture - he is a quality player who has been a part of a quality squad competing at the highest level... Experience from a player like this could help a team in transition...

We could do A LOT worse than James Milner. Tough as nails, works incredibly hard and can work as both a Lennon back-up and as a part of a midfield three.

I like him but we already have a jam in the middle which could use more quality or versatility adding another box to box doesn't make all that much sense when we have bigger needs. Lennon cover could work but if AVB is trying to go into his own system whatever his price it's worth taking a shot on a young unproven Winger.

We all complain about the conceding of late, late goals but then when someone suggests a signing like Milner and everyone baulks at the idea and gives out huge NO's?

What he offers is extremely thin on the ground at our Club.

So we are giving up on pace? If Bale goes in the summer, and Lennon is pushed out by milner we will be the same as every other team in the prem.

I'm not saying no, I'm just saying he would not be my number one target.
I think we should be focussing on Llorente, Moutinho, Isco and Willian before we jump for Milner.
Of course if none of those are doable, then by all means bring in someone of miners experience and versatility, but I would not go for him if the others are doable.

According to reports he's on around £100k a week. City will ask for a reasonable fee plus his wages will make him an expensive purchase.

He's a good player but not convinced he fits in that well. Could be another Bentley-like signing. Better than Bentley and harder working but expensive and not sure where he has a place.

We have to be smarter in the transfer market to succeed.

I like him as a player but not want we need...we are in need of real pacey players with technical awarenesss. we definately need to get another winger striker and a modric replacement.

He is shite, and not any old shite but shite of the highest order.

Nooo... there are many players I would classify as shite, but Milner is definitely not one of them. Is he amazing? No, he is an above average player with some very decent versatility and definitely improves a squad. Is he starting material even at Spurs? No, but I would rather have Milner on my bench than some of the players we do.

Again, for me, not top priority by a mile, but not the end of the world. I think he will prove to be too expensive for what he offers though.

You think, he is shite

Its all about opinions my friend!

You can't lay it out as a statement of fact. I for one do not think he is shite. I think he would do well for us actually. It is a sqaud game now-a-days after all.... there are definately games where he would be a better option then some of the midfielders we have and games where he wouldn't, but to stone-wall say he is no good.....?!

I think that he gets a bad press. Is it because he isn't doing flashy things? He seems to get seen as some boring square headed yokel who can only do the basics. Well, he does those basics extemely well and thats more than can be said for a lot of our players recently. If we were doing the things that he does game-in, game-out, we would be holding on to our leads and be top of the league or there abouts.

What is it about him that people do not rate?

He is a solid passer who's completion rate must be up there with the best, doesn't give away possesion needlessly, has a very good shot on him, always has an end product when he gets down the line, works hard, chases back, doesn't give up, tenacious, strong in the tackle, has the right attitude......

I could go on.

What is it exactly in footballing terms that nobody like's about him? Please tell me.

It's about onions? Some sort of metophorical point about layers?

I think Milner gets a tough time because he went to Man City for big money and isn't world-class. We hate players going for fees like £30m when they aren't worth it and they unfairly get labelled shit.

Like Lescott he was highly rated before going to Man City.

My concern isn't that he isn't good enough. It's that his transfer fee would be big and his wages huge and I'm not sure where he fits in.

Think we need to be smarter in the market than go for the likes of Milner.

He is no upgrade compared to what we have. no thank you. Isco/will/llorente falcao these are the players we should go for otherwise we remain a team of 4/5/6 positions. We need to target 3/2/1 table positions. Simple.

Would be a good player to have in the squad, City can afford to pay our first team wages to their squad players so for me unless he would take a huge pay cut then he won't for me be an option, as he certainly wouldn't be a first team regular.
I think he is the sort of player that would help with the soft side of our team at times and people seem to forget just how good his delivery is, as others have said, he is not shit and to label him as such is really quite ignorant, he is a good solid pro..

Big no from me.
We need players that improve the first eleven, not filling the squad with mediocre players.
This. I've never rated him that highly, he has great moments in some games but nowhere near enough consistency.

Journo says he is available on the cheap - a la Ade - so if we wanted him I don't think that would be a problem.

Rather have Micah Richards considering Walker's form although he appears to be thick as pigshit and we have quite a few of them already.
