No point changing the system when we just starting flourishing in it in the last 10 games or so at the end of last season.

Nothing wrong with having the option to change to a 3-5-2, but 3-4-3 is what our transfers so far have revolved around and what will undoubtedly be our starting formation for almost every game.

Have to disagree there.

No way Maddison gets in to our strongest 11 ahead of Deki for me.

And Conte clearly wants to use 343 as our primary formation. I acknowledge you said it’s hypothetical based on if you were manager but just my thoughts on it.
Not to start with. But if he performs he will. Competition for places

That second string could finish top 8. For these reasons, I find it mental that Zaniolo is being preferred to this fella, all fees being equal.
It’s more of playing 4d chess here, it’s about getting the best possible team using the funds we have.
Let’s say we all here agree Maddison is better footballer than Zaniolo.
But let’s also say theres a deal to be done for Zaniolo and they would accept Ndombele as a big part of the deal so we still have money for exciting cb like Bastoni or Gvardiol.
If we buy Maddison, we dont have that kind of money and we bring, let’s say, Kim Min Jae (who I rate highly btw) - and now the choice may be not so obvious.

Lloris
Romero Dier BD/CL
Doherty ---- Bentancur ----- Bissouma ---- Perisic

Kulusevski -------Kane ---------- Son

Bench:
Forster
Sanchez
BD/CL
Sessegnon
Royal (or Skipp)
Hojbjerg
Lucas
Maddison
Richarlison

Spence is simply not ready, and we are better served in a 343, where Maddison can play, but I prefer Deki.

Nice

I'm no expert but I would have thought if we want someone like Maddison it's so we can play a different format, maybe to break down a different type of defensive structure, surely we won't play the exact format every game of the year.

So I guess maybe 2 up front with Maddison in the hole ( as 'arry used to call it), as that seems to be his preferred position and where he plays at his best.

I honestly think Deki could play this AM role too. He's so intelligent, strong, rarely gives the ball away and plays really clever short and long passes. He himself thinks it his best position.

Not saying I wouldn't like to see a Paquetà or Maddison in our team just a thought.

I thought the formations we started with was based on the players available. Now we have new players that Conte may want to play a diff formation as he has confidence in the incomings.

The most important thing in this AM hunt is Conte. Whoever he prefers out of Zaniolo or Maddison (or another) we should go for with total commitment. Conte is the key, he’s made a compromise on Spence. Back him and keep him happy and we will win trophies.

If Kulusevski performs he will stay in?
Of course. But we need options and those options need to be as strong as possible and as close as possible to the starting player. So Kulu and zaniolo both performing would be very good for us

Completely agree. But how do we know which one is Conte’s choice? We can hope it’s the one that we sign but we won’t really know for sure. I think people still bring it back to who they prefer. I.E if you’re more of a JM fan and we get Zaniolo, you’re probably going to say that Conte hasn’t got what he wants when in reality we don’t know what he wants

I we signed Maddison we would be perfect for 433 but can’t see Conte doing so.

We really wouldn't. Pretty much all our wide defenders are wing backs not full backs apart from Emerson and all our centre backs are much better suited to play as a 3 and not a 2. Look at the difference in Dier playing as a central defender in a back 3 compared to under Nuno in a back 2, its night and day. Even our midfielders currently are suited to this system, that's why they've been brought in.

Hahah biggest load of rubbish. Firstly, Conte would never. Secondly, this squad finishes 8-10 with a back 4, as the defence would be horrific.

There’s rumors that Nice want Schmeichel who only has a year left on his contract. The Leicester challenges might soon be coming to a head.

Jeesh....... they really in a pickle.....and there was me admiring how they have been smart in recruiting and run properly.... having so many assets running down their contracts or targets for moves makes me rethink my previous assertions.

Having said that..... they have some trophies to show for their efforts. they'd be better off selling both Tielemans and Maddison and reinvigorating their squad.....something like Crystal Palace have done....buying upcoming talent in the Championship.

and i read Newcastle want Barnes maybe to replace St Maxim - one imagines that there may be some clever people putting 2-2 and getting slightly different numbers than one would expect to fill a few lines

Rodgers is quoted again as saying they need to sell before they buy, and on one of the foxes message boards, someone is claiming that they have 10 players potentially out of contract next summer. Ouch.
