All the successful Clubs over the years have had one thing in common...even above good managers.

It's quality/strength in depth.

They're never that badly hamstrung with injuries because there's simply very little drop off on in quality with a few injuries.

I think adding Maddison brings us to that sort of level now.
Genuinely think Liverpool's depth has only been good for the past season or so. Their squad was pretty thin when they won the league/CL IMO - they just had incredible luck with injuries. You only have to look at the 20/21 season to see how fucked they were when they lost a few key players

In the case of City and Chelsea, or United of old, its defo true though.

Key part of it is the 'unless he requests a move' part.

I imagine he will, and will not sign a new contract. Leicester are going backwards and he can't get into the England team there. Makes sense to seek a move to a CL club this summer or next.

That £65m suddenly moves closer to £50m after the above happens.
Spot on mate.

Here he’ll be given the opportunity to play with and be seen laying on passes to the England captain in the build up to the World Cup.
Surely he’d have to recognise that opportunity.

I think we will readily pay £65 million this summer for a key player who will be integral to what Conte is building. I just don't think Maddison is that player. He would surely be a plan B option and at most an important squad player. It's not the money, I'm sure we'd pay that for Bastoni, it's more a question of priorities and squeezing maximum utility from the budget.

Starting up the Leicester PR machine.
Can’t be seen to sell their best player when it would leave a big hole in an already declining squad.
Step 1. Pretend to offer new contract
Step 2. Player rejects imaginary contract
Step 3. Club has no option to sell as only 2 years
Step 4. Club sell

Not to say this is happening, more like reporting like this (no matter source) isn’t worth putting much attention in to, could easily go any which way possible still

..so yeah I doubt we'd buy him if that's what our thinking was.

I would expect him to rotate plenty.

We've got to get psst this thinking of a first eleven and just bench options.

liec under big pressure now , unless they sell a big player they have no funds owner can't pay anything out , YT not sold , if they can't move him for big money then Maddison in the frame

I’d spend £65 million on him all day long. That’s reasonable. If we spent £60 million on Richarlison then Maddison is certainly worth that.

Still think it's unlikely, but given we got that 150m, a 65m price tag certainly isn't beyond us.

Obviously a bit of a simplification, but beyond Richarlison most of our signings have been either frees, loans or relatively cheap and we've got ~30m for CCV and Bergwijn. If we sell a few more players then a big late window splurge on Maddison isn't beyond the realm of possibility.

To put things in perspective, I think Forest have a bigger net spend than us so far this summer.
We need to get Winks in this deal, the difference between having £25m and £45m on a CB. Problem is unless we can get guaranteed cash for Lo Celso, Reguilon or Winks dropping £60m on Maddison leaves us short on cash for an important defensive addition.

You have to ask, could we get a more valuable player for our squad for that money? Maybe we could, but I don’t know who. Skriniar? Nobody from the Prem, for sure.

True but seems to me like all of our top CB targets are either reluctant or unavailable. Would rather wait until next summer/Jan rather than sign an average CB for the sake of it. I feel an expensive AM like Maddison would make more financial sense this window due to availability.

Obviously things could change late in the window, but personally I'd be stunned if we got a CB like Bastoni, Gvardiol or similar this summer.

Agreed, CB links have all gone quiet, whereas CAM links have ramped up. I hope we get Maddison after we sort our outgoings.

Obviously the account is bollocks but let’s say that was legitimate ITK. All that tells me is he IS for sale close to a reasonable level (prob below £65m). Winks as part of the deal and it’s very doable financially but still not sure Conte likes him?

ITK has already made clear that AC wants him ... when there's other options maybe different, however this is a target

Tbh even 20 million for Winks would be decent...
I'd snap their hand off for 7.5m lol.

Also has anyone thought about whether Maddison would be OK coming here to be 3rd choice? Hell, would he be OK going anywhere without being a nailed on starter? Because it's hard to see him starting more than 30-40% of matches in our system...

I think it's all about strength in depth and competition.

Sure he'll get his fair share of playing time, but do really well and get even more time...

That's the challenge and we want players who embrace that not shy away from it.

He'll know full well how strong our squad is.
