After a successful season-long loan at the Tigers, there has been quite a lot of reports saying Steve Bruce would want to sign Livermore on permanent basis.

Now, here comes Rodgers...

Anfield side chase loaned out White Hart Lane midfielder.

Brendan Rodgers' pursuit of an additional steely midfield option to support Brazilian Lucas Leiva will lead the Liverpool manager to make an offer for Tottenham youngster Jake Livermore according to TuttoMercato.

The 24 year old has hugely impressed during his season long loan spell at Hull City and will no doubt be a player Steve Bruce wants to sign on a permanent basis though the temptation of a move to Anfield could well trump any such KC Stadium switch.

The locally born defensive midfielder has represented Tottenham since the age of 16 but has managed to rack up just 11 Premier League starts for the north London club among a host of loan moves and the former England Under 21 international may well feel it time to leave the White Hart Lane on a permanent basis.

Given the sheer number of central midfield options Spurs currently have an offer of 10m (£8m) may be accepted by chairman Daniel Levy, as he looks to balance the books ahead of any summer spending by whomever replaces Tim Sherwood as Tottenham manager.

Rodgers could well do with more defensive solidity in his midfield and back-line after seeing his Liverpool side concede far too many goals this season.

-edit- just to add a reference: Steve Bruce regards Jake signing as 1st priority

Bruce's first priority will be to secure a permanent deal for Tottenham's Jake Livermore but he may be forced to wait until Spurs have a new manager in place.

"We have got to try to secure Jake if we can afford him," said Bruce.

I would be disgusted to see both Livermore and Caulker playing for Liverpool. Something has to be wrong there.

Good, let them buy our rejects. And we are due ?40% of the Caulker sell-on fee. So we can end up with over 10 million if they really buy both.

Yeah, but I'd hate seeing it. Always wished Livermore would be able to break through, as well as Caulker, but with those types of players you expect to see them go off to smaller clubs if they don't make it at Spurs. Seeing them both at Liverpool together two years after playing for Spurs and possibly even seeing time in the CL is just a sickening prospect.

seems inevitable though. Spurs ambition has been challenging the CL spot and then hopefully we could stay there every year. in such case, giving chances to young prospectives might be a bit too costy.

Henderson had not been as good when they first sign him but then game time was given and the player improved a lot along with Steven Gerard. We however do not have a player holding team spirit like Gerard does for them.

Instead, we preferred to buy more "established" players for an expected immediate success. Fully understandable, we haven't got immediate success though. Foreigners need time to get settled, that's what we learn.

I got a cab Saturday night and the driver had picked up Jake's Dad earlier in the day from Neasden to Lancaster Gate. Mr Livermore had visited Neasden after the Wembley game as he used to own a club there in the 80's which later turned into the legendary/shit Dicey's. He was met by Jake and his agent at Lancaster Gate. Jake's agent was a Pakistani guy.

What have we learnt? Don't rely on Pakistani cricket loving cab drivers for Football ITK. They remember all the wrong stuff. I tipped him anyway.

Inevitable they won't all make it at Spurs indeed and for the reasons you cite, but two of our academy players ending up together at a rival club playing in the CL two years after playing together for us? No, not only is that not inevitable, it should never happen since it's more indicative of a problem with us than anything else.

It's funny how many in here would happily sell to Hull, as he would not get in our 1st team as it stands. Now Liverpool turns up and suddenly he's a God given footballer we've done horribly getting rid of (he's still ours, btw...)

-looks back through thread-

Who's applauding him as a player, much less to that extent?

The fact of the matter is, players from an academy at a bigger club typically are sold to the likes of Cardiff or Hull if they don't make it at their parent club. Tis the natural order of things. But do you not agree that something looks wrong if a CL-level club are fielding two of our academy players within two years of playing for us? This has nothing to do with the individual talents, but simply that it does not shine favorably upon our appreciation or evaluation of our own youth.

I disagree with the fact that we should evaluate him any different than what we are currently doing, whether Hull or Liverpool are interested in his services. Currently, I reckon few would argue that he has a place in our team as nothing but a decent squad player. If Liverpool believes otherwise, then shame on them as we should know his skill cap the best. If we deem him inferior to our current lot, he would most likely weaken the Liverpool team and we should snap their hand off.

As dk-yid said, however, I think we all want him to succeed as he is Spurs through and through but if he is not good enough he should be moved on, whether it's to Hull, Liverpool or Real Madrid.

Ideally you're absolutely correct, but these things do have ripple effects. I think the most likely scenario is Jake goes to Hull anyway and Liverpool go after a more established option, but I do not like how such a possible event, however unlikely, would shine upon us were it to happen.
