I'm sorry but if it's a foul, it is a foul regardless of halfway line or box. Just like if it's worthy of a booking or red it shouldn't matter the minute it happens.

In this specific case it wasn't minimal contact or he got a slight touch of the ball or got the ball then the follow through caught the attacker. It was really late with studs on the ankle. That IS a foul and a penalty.

I think in full speed he goes for the ball and is a bit late, then due to the fact that they're both sticking their feet in the same general direction, there's contact. In slow motion it looks a lot worse I admit.

As I said above though, I agree that a foul is a foul. But if the punishment is massively more severe then maybe the burden of proof needs to be higher, or there should be a middle ground kind of punishment to make it less harsh. It just seems odd to me that a genuine attempt to play the ball that doesn't affect the chance in the slightest is punished in the same way as someone cynically hacking someone down as they're about to shoot.

One thing i love to see in the euros is the match ups in terms of styles of play and philosophy.
Spain are great but poland work so hard and scrap it out its great to watch. There are better teams than poland that spain could probably brush aside because of their style of play.
If you take all the favourites for the euros they could all beat eachother yet some will match up better than others because there style of play exposes there weaknesses.

For example. Id say as an italian that id be much more confident of beating germany than spain because of nature of how spain play compared to the germans. Likewise id be confident of beating belgium but not france.
Yet all of those named teams are roughly of equal quality overall.

Have they said why no Real Madrid players were picked?
Isco, Asensio and Vasquez aren't anywhere near the squad, Carvajal I think is injured, and Ramos obviously not selected.

That's pretty much all Spaniards in the RM squad these days.

Not sure how they could get it more accurate tbh, short of having some kind of sensor in the players boots or the ball.

Higher framerate cameras for a start. There's a ridiculously high margin for error.

Poland/Sweden and Spain/Slovakia will be really enjoyable final round of matches. An intruguingly poised group, where you could make a realistic case for any team qualifying.

Don't be ridiculous. How do you expect them to keep their 80+% average possession with players like him on the pitch? :cautious:

I dislike they way Spain play. So much possession but not that many chances. Very one dimensional.

Thank god for teams like Germany and Italy. They have possession aswell but are more direct. Much more entertaining.

Spain are nowhere near winning this. They look ragged under pressure. Like England, they are less than the sum of their parts, and they are in no way guaranteed to qualify, even as a best placed 3rd.

Asensio really hasn't lived up to his potential/hype.
