Just read that Man City have applied to be in the Intertoto Cup. Wondered what everyone's thoughts were on entering?? Myself, i am going out to Prague, been to Brussels, Seville etc love going to see Spurs abroad. However i think Intertoto would harm are pre season and maybe a year out of Europe would benefit are onslaught on CL places next season. We will hopefully win the CC cup in which case we wont have to bother!

We should apply

If we don't win the CC or UEFA it would give us a much better pre-season campaign than the one we had before this season. I partly blame our lack of quality opponents (or non-walkovers) in the pre-season for our dismal start. The guys obviously weren't match fit, as Jol also admitted.

Yeah i think inter-toto would be a good idea. We seems to always start the season half asleep at the moment.

deffo apply - not applying when we could have in previous years was a bad mistake

Playing in meaningful games is always better to develop new strategies as no doubt Ramos will be doing. Anyway we have a big enough squad so that nobody would be too heavily taxed.

The downside of applying for the Intertoto is that this summer will be Juande's first pre-season. And Senors Ramos & Alvarez are notorious for the attention and importance they place on pre-season training: both in terms of fitness, and team shape and organization.

Last summer, the Sevilla players taped their mouths in a respectful "silent" protest at quite how hard the pre-season training was.

To play the high-tempo attacking football Ramos is famous for, he needs superfit players. So, I would be wary about applying for the Intertoto, especially as it messed up the seasons of English clubs who did participate (Everton and Newcastle if I remember correctly).

Anyway, after we've won the Carling Cup, it won't an issue.

We have to be the best team that finished outside European qualification and applied for the Intertoto.

EDIT: So assuming Chelski beat us in the CC final, thus making the scenario possible ...

8th if the FA Cup final is contested between two top 6 teams.
7th if not.

That's correct Marty. I just hope we applied, it'd be foolish not to. Either way we've got two other shots (UEFA or CC) and even a fairplay lottery. Not being in europe isn't an option although it would be nice to concentrate on the league and get in to the CL

Agree with camaj. We should apply. No harm in having another route in. Though I'm sure we'd all rather just stuff Chelsea on the 24th :hump:

I read the same story on teletext & if I'm not mistaken it said that the deadline for entry was 25 January so we might have missed out already. Might be wrong though...

Don't think so. The Intertoto rules changed before this season, I think there's only one team per country allowed now.

But I'm not sure, and the information I can find on uefa.com is inconclusive.

I think they mentioned this on The Spurs Show, only the winner of the CC gets into the UEFA cup. It's only in the FA cup that the losing finalist gets a spot if the winner is already qualified
