How much more will Jenas progress?

The recent upturn of Jenas' form got me thinking about another attacking young ex-barcode who used to play for us, who also wore no 8.

Now while I'd be the first to say that Jenas doesn't have Gazza's class, he's already got defence splitting passes and great runs forward. If he could work on the free kicks and dribbling he does have the opportunity to become a Spurs great.

He really would need a personality transplant to rival our much loved old mentalist, but now the Jenas-bashers seem to have been silenced, how good do people think he can become?

great engine, good runs, gets in goal scoring positions and puts a good few away (although could be more), gets stuck in, but I think the thing he lacks is the defence splitting passes. If he developed that part of his game he could be a spurs great, all the other attributes are there, especially since hes now found a bit of consistancy. But he will never be a gazza, very different type of player IMO.

The main area he needs to improve IMO is his composure in front of goal, if he does this he could be a 15-20 goal a season player.

He has everything. Sometimes when I watch him it seems like he is short of confidence as he doesn't dribble enough. He needs to drive more and take people on; I believe he will once we purchase a holding player.

he can become very good - he's been our top CM for over a year now - it just took a long time for the Jenas bashers to catch up - of course recently he's taken his game up another level -

the thing I enjoy the most and I said it months ago was how the Toon fans (who can be as bad as the appalling boo boys we have at the Lane - and JJ wasn't their first or last ill-chosen target) helped drive JJ and Parker out - and look at the midfield they've got now - hilarious - how they'd love to have a mid player anywhere near as good as JJ - what have they got - Butt Smith please I'm laughing so much

and they thought they conned us in getting £7m for JJ - they could offer double now and they wouldn't get him back - priceless :) ah those great Toon fans ...(and of course we've had plenty of idiots too who did their level best to drive JJ out - thank goodness we had Jol & JR in charge and not any of those morons - oh and well done Levy - apparently he was instrumental in buying JJ)

He has everything.

EVERYTHING?!?!?!?

We are talking about the same Jenas here right? Spurs number 8?

Dont get me wrong at the mo he is playing VERY well but cant see how he has EVERYTHING.

As for how much more he will progress, well i hope loads. However something tells me this is as good as he is going to get (I hope i am proved wrong).

I assume you was one of the Jenas boo-boys. Even when he wasn't paying "great" I could still see that he had pedigree.

Remember how Fat Frank changed into a different player when the money hit Chelsea. I can predict the same happening to JJ now that we have a world class manager.

One of the reasons Jenas has never palyed to his best is because he's never had someone doing the grunt work for him like Gerrard and Lampard have, Makelele had a bigger impact on Lampard's career than anything [Alonso for Gerrard!]

JJ has not looked fantastic in some games because he's had to try and do the defensive work and then do the build up play, he's much better when he's allowed just to spread his legs and make one final pass, or play a one two, which is what I hope to see a lot more of.

JJ has also hit the magic number of 24, when midfielders of his style really shine, there aren't many Fabregas's out there, some of the best midfielders are only recognised at a later stage of their career, Iniesta is a good example, Barca fans can say more about him than I can, but he had a lot of potential, and it was only last year that he really showed what he could do, for a while he was playing better than Xavi and Deco, which is some feat.

 I wish some people would remember this when they're slagging one player or another. In the right circumstances, with the right conditions and sometimes just through hitting the right age, players develop.

No, actually have never booed Jenas or anyone else.
Just think the statement saying he has EVERYTHING is a bit much! Not sure how you got that i am a Jenas hater from that????

Go back to talking out ya backside about 'visual awareness coaching' or whatever the rubbish was you were chatting about a few weeks back
:shake:

I've often said JJ could be our Gerard. He has that potential. If Carrick had stayed or Zoko was a CDM then JJ would've spent more time in the England squad. He is very good but needs more support.

He does lack a bit of self confidence sometimes, and composure. He needs a top quality partner in midfield to help push him on.

He doesn't have everything, but I think the key to his contiued improvement is being allowed to function in the same role with a regular partner alongside him in the middle.

I think the reason why its taken a little while for him to really come to the fore is because he's played alongside numerous CM's for us who are all different players to one another (Carrick, Zok, Tainio, Hudd) and that has forced him to frequently adapt his own game to accomodate whoever was partnering him in midfield. If we form a stable central midfield partnership then there's no reason why JJ can't go on and be the great player he was touted as becoming when Newcastle first signed him.

Jenas IMO is world class at what he does and Gazza was world class at what he did, same position different players, if I could replace Jenas with Gazza would I?
