Thing is, we gotta lose this mentality of being proud of our guys going to superior clubs, and become fixated on becoming as good as the clubs these guys want to go to. Mentality.

I agree with you but what's done is done. Real is probably the most prestigious club in the world so unless we win the league every other year for the next decade it's gonna take a while before we can get to their level. If he had to go to someone I'd rather it be Real.

If I see Luka Modric playing for Real Madrid on my TV, I will take a deep breath and say:

'BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!'

But only the first time I see him.

At the end of the day I am a Spurs fan & I would rather play for Madrid than Spurs! Wish he could have played in the opening two games to say farewell tho

No way, man.

I would not be able to leave Spurs. I would rather score one goal for Spurs than 1,000 for Real Madrid.

I guess I fall into the Shearer category. Boyhood club before Galacticos.

That tugged a little on the heart when I saw Luka in a Real Madrid shirt, but he's made for that level, he even showed it with his first few touches. El Clasico and he still has his own personal postcode when he gets the ball.

10 minutes, one trophy more like.

Well, at least he's started getting used to warming the bench.

What ?? You and SP hang you head in utter, utter shame you fkin fairweather pansies

My error...I was agreeing with the second sentence, if he had played in these two games (and by inference, had behaved and not thrown a wobbly potential wholly prejudicial to our club).
The whole of my post should have made that clear...but I could have clarified.
I don't particularly wish him luck because he tried to shaft us over.
If he had left in the right way, I would wish him luck.

I wonder if we would have had a similiar thread had Levy caved in and gave into Lukas wishes last season (and sold to Chelsea)?

He showed total disrespect to our club. I'm not going to be 'happy for him' or 'proud'.

Ah right sorry I thought it was rather un-SP-like (y)

I should have considered that but I was about 4-5 pints down the road :)

As a Croatian i have to be proud and happy for him.

And as a Yid I am aswell, he gave us 4 great years and I honestly believe if we managed to get CL again he would have stayed longer. All the bad things he did I'm pretty sure he did on bad advice from agents, I also don't buy all the crap that the media wrote about him as some croatian newspapers who have closer ties to him wrote different stories.

But whatever, if the rumours about VDV are true then it means this season will be the one to decide where we are heading, our 2 most influental players the past seasons are gone. Since 2008 only Lennon, Bale and Assou-Ekotto have left who are starters, so this is really a fresh start now. Hope AVB makes it happen.

Nah sorry, just can't agree with the OP on this one. Although I really, really wish I could. I loved him playing for us and he was a joy to watch. But this window and last he has handled himself disgracefully IMO. Yes he wanted a move, yes everybody knew that, so to effectively refuse to play and train pre-season and refuse to go on the tour in America was very poor form. He used every tool in his arsenal to try to force the move...but did he actually have the balls to submit a transfer request?? Did he fuck!! At the end of the day he was still under contract with us until he moved and any man with his ounce would have continued as normal with pre-season and played those first two matches for his employer.

It probably was...but he still did them. I really don't believe he is so stupid that he didn't realise that by doing so he was colluding in an attempt to force us to accept an offer way below his real value. And I don't beleive he had no notion that what his advisers were advising him to do was unethical. So I don't accept the probability that his advisers told him to do what he did as an excusse.

And just to clarify, in case you have seen any of my earlier posts on the subject: when we first signed him, and I could tell that he was a special player, I said (on here) that if we could get three good years outof him and then make a big profit we would do well. So, the fact that he wanted to go to Real, and has now gone there, isn't clouding my perception. If he had gone about it in the right way I relaly would wish him well. He didn't.

He's left - can't say I care very much either way. He behaved like a nob though to the club that helped put him on centre stage.

Everything he did for us is now in the past.

His contribution last night was really interesting. I think he will improve Real massively.

I hoped from the beginning that he would stay here till he retires, with the club progressing with him to being CL regulars and Title contenders every year. I really was pissed off at him last season when it was really in the air of him moving to Chelsea. But right now I'm just happy that it was abroad and especially to Real which in all fairness in my opinion is the biggest club in the world.

Im pretty sure though that if I weren't Croatian I would have the same antipathy for him now as most people on here have, but I don't buy the crap that some here write that they wouldn't have gone to Real if they were in his shoes. It's easy writing it on the internet with "what ifs" etc, but if you really are a footballer and you have the chance to play for Real Madrid with some of the best players in the world, you wouldn't simply turn it out because you want to play for your childhood club. You can name those kinda players on one hand and I don't think on SC its different. (btw that wasn't intended at you directly cause i just saw your post earlier regarding this, but in general to that cliche-sentence)

"Proud"?

I will always enjoy watching Luka play, I did last night, but get out of Real Madrids arseholes will you?

I'm proud he played for us, the fact he now plays for a "bigger club" makes me want to vomit.

"We're by far the greatest team, the world has ever seen!!!"
