As you probably know by now, Mexico hammered the USA in the Gold Cup yesterday, beating them 5-0, and all with our own little mexican superstar Gio, putting in a man-of-the-match performance.

So! More than anything, i guess this post is a plea to Arry and co, to please please please take another look at GDS a bit more closely and give him a role in 1st team - somewhere!!

In fact, with all this talk of signing a left sided winger, maybe we're really missing a trick here, perhaps GDS is the answer - i mean he can certainly play there, or if Modric is on the left then GDS can even push up and become part of the attacking line, i just think he needs to be given a chance.

Unfortunately from what i've heard Arry doesn't really rate him! Not on his footballing ability, but more so for his antics off field - but c'mon, the guy is still young and probably still quite immature, surely that can be overlooked, or better still worked on! - if anyone can do it, surely Arry can!!

Anyway, now that he's on his way back to us, i really really hope we can keep him and get a chance to see what he's made of!!

Plea over!! :)

The Most Valuable Player award was for the entire tournament btw.
Hope he at least will be given a chance when he returns, personally I'd rather have Giovani than Robbie Keane.

i agree, it's clearly evident that GDS has what it takes to be a quality player, would really like to see him involved more heavily this season.

I think it's time for a petition.... 10,000 spurs fans signatures waiting on Harry's desk when he's back from China. Don't think it will make the the slightest difference but I'm bored at work!

I just dont think we can play Gio, lennon and Modric in the same team. And Arry seems to love Lennon and Modirc so where does that leave Gio? Hopefully at least a place on the bench!

You could play him instead of Kefoe up front, in a Tevez type role. But yes, he wold be a bench option rather than a 1st teamer.

I don't want to deliberately ruin the Gio lovin' here, but I have to point out that even if the tournament is their 'Euro's', the US team was not full-strength in any sort of way.

For example, Troy Perkins, keeper at Vålerenga in Norway, was in goal, and another player in Norway, Start's Clarence Goodson, played at centre-back in some games (not the final I think, but still). Neither would get anywhere near their World Cup squad next year.

I also doubt that the Mexico team was completely full-strength, but I can't confirm that.

So while it's a good achievment for Gio to be voted MVP, I won't be going as nuts as some of you guys.

The only way we could successfully incorporate him would be to drop Keane and Defoe. Gio playing Keane's role behind a no.9 could work really well. Personally I reckon he has the potential to better than either Keane or Defoe eventually, so I wouldnt be against gradually cementing him into this role. The only problem is that we have no no.9. Plus obviously your not gonna drop Keane or Defoe so it would have to be a gradual process, with Defoe eventually being sold and Keane sticking around as back-up.

hm, surely modric or lennon will be injured or need to rest at some point next season? hopefully gio can get a chance then, or at least in the cups! i think first team football is best for him though, maybe a loan to a promoted team? it'll help him adapt to the league while helping his international career too.

Still MVP is an achievement and goes to show that he's easily too good for a tournament of that quality.

I doubt Danny Rose would have gotten MVP, but he's been getting a chance to prove himself. Hopefully GDS will be involved in the Asia cup.

edit: not having a dig at Rose here, as i think he's got good potential too.

People aren't going nuts but they want him to be given a fair chance

Other players got lots of chance last year without any success and i hope Gio can get the same chance.

Other players who weren't off drinking champers when they should've been somewhere else, other players that weren't snapped in the media pissed out of their skulls when they should be knuckling down.

Gio is obviously a talent, but when you're a kid trying to break into the first team you need to be seen to be getting your head down and working. Not convinced Gio has been doing that at Spurs up to now.

we have no idea what he's actually doing in training though. yes he got snapped as a drunk, but ledley has too and we have no idea if our other players have been drinking too last season. maybe he's been working his ass off since returning from injury, who knows?

he might have an attitude issue, but i suspect the fact that our first team can't really accommodate him atm - there was no way harry was going to change a winning team during our good run - might be just as problematic for him, and for our other youngsters. our first team is under a lot of pressure to succeed quickly in a very difficult league, which isn't the best environment for a young player to develop.

since hopefully we won't be in a relegation battle next season, i'd like to see harry give some of our kids more chances or at least send them out on loan. despite how much harry bangs on about taarabt, i didn't see him give him any chances last season, and now he's once again on loan at QPR.

Gio's ability is undoubted.

Anybody who watched barca's academy products at the weekend can see that to come through that as a very young player and make plenty of 1st team appearances confirms ability.

In my opinion it would be stupid to let this kid go at this stage of his career, I think we would regret it!

I hope that he breaks through for us this season. I personally think that, given the way our team will be relying on creativity and pace from the flanks the way things are shaping up, this boy would be the perfect alternative on the right to Lennon for when Lennon inevitably loses form (I love him, but it happens because he is a confidence player) or gets injured. I hear shouts of Bentley? Well that would involve changing the way we play, whereas Giovani would be another speedy tricky dribbler who stretches defences.

We should definitely be attempting to get the best out of Gio because as others have said his ability isn't in doubt.

It does appear that his attitude and off field antics are holding him back but that is something that should be easily fixable with a bit of decent man management.

It would be a crying shame if we couldn't make the most out of signing someone who came through the Barca youth system successfully. He'd offer us options on the left, the right and upfront and in the age of 7 substitutes is a fantastic asset to have on the bench.

Of course maybe Harry has seen something in him that suggests he's not up for the fight...but I really hope we see some more of him this season because that would mean he's finally knuckling down in training.

MVP in the whole contest and don't forget his stellar stats when he went on loan.

Basically Ramos messed up. He was playing Modric, Bentley, GDS, Lennon at the start of the season Ardiles management style. And that is with 2 strikers!

He obviously discounted anything that involves team defending.

So not only were we midget heavy, they were also playing together for the first time (Gio, Bentley and Modric) so it was a disaster of record proportions.

Gios introduction to the Prem was compounded by a myriad of selection/signing mistakes and fans nenver trully got to see Gio in a solid lineup in his best position.

Ramos messed up because he played 2 wingers and an attacking midfielder? You forget he had an awesome defence. The teams problem was scoring goals.
