Was taking a pay cut an option? He can only go to a club who will pay the transfer fee! If say Man Utd and this chinese club both had bids accepted and he chose China then yes call him a greedy twat but until we know the full details let’s hold off on the money is Bales motivation comments!
The reason noones bidding on him is because of his wage demands, not his transfer fee. Obviously it's a red line he or his agent aren't prepared to budge on.

The owners of the Chinese club also own inter Milan. Would surprise me to see him play 6 months in China on a working holiday with a guaranteed transfer to italy next year. Chinese club gets the prestige of signing a superstar for the rest of their season and Gareth gets a well paid out of rm.

I must say I didn’t think he’d go there. Can’t turn down that kind of money though. I expect he’ll be back in Europe within the next 12 months.

Given the number of people who seem to personally know Gareth Bale and how he thinks plus the ins and out of his contracts and on top of all that the events which led to the current situation, I have to ask, where was the fucking ITK when we needed it? Coming out with it now isn't much good.

There's a lot of people making big assumptions based on fuck all actual knowledge of the details. It's starting to look obvious where Talksport get a lot of their callers from :D

Do you hand on heart believe he wouldn't have a load of offers from top european clubs if his wage demands were around the £200k to £300k a week mark?

The fact top flight professional footballers all don't have real estate empires is itself a travesty.

Rio Ferdinand has a reasonable portfolio (property ITK) but on the whole, you’re right. You hear far too often about footballers who get sucked into investing in strange companies or setting up soccer schools by their agent/advisors and end up losing money.

Dier definitely only rents his house in London (ITK again) - round the corner from Rihanna who bought hers. Seems crazy a young big-earner (compared to most) like Dier wouldn’t buy.

At 30 he probably realises that his peak his behind him now, and to continue at this level would mean some kind of compromise on wages or first team.

He's not coming here as he simply isn't going to align with Poches ethos.

China represents a solid winding down, first team action and plenty of bunce. As alluded to he's possibly concerned that his body may not manage more than a couple more seasons.

Or maybe he wants a million quid a week.

Of course you can. Pure greed when you already have more than you could possibly need. Self respect is worth more.

Shame we won’t get to see our boy competing at the highest level but honestly there are very few (if any) on SC that would turn down doing the same job as you do now but for a 50 million a year. All well and good arguing about glory etc but it is just a job and we’d all move jobs for a few % increase let alone those numbers

But why should he drop his wages to help RM out. They are the ones that offered him the increase. Why would anyone drop a massive amount of money they are scheduled for.

I wish he stays the course to fuck them over.

It’s not about helping real out as im sure I read the Chinese club are paying around €25 million for him. Your telling me a European club wouldn’t have been in for Bale at that fee. It appears what has put the clubs off is his wage demands.

Yes I understand the perspective why should he take a pay cut to move on from real.

But the other side of things he could have taken a pay cut played two/three more seasons at top level European football and then moved to China or where ever and earned more millions.

Cashing in when he can, setting himself up even more for the remainder of his life. Why not? If you where offered a lottery winning amount of money to do your job but had to move to China would you not go? Of course you would. Only downside is the air pollution so he is probably cutting a year or two off his retirement years.

It's more so a shame for football in all honesty. Someone of Bale's ability should be showcased in a top league and the champions league, not a Chinese league that no one gives a shit about.

I think you're confusing a multi millionaire with an ordinary person, on an ordinary salary who isn't already made for life along with his whole family for generations to come.

I agree but also disagree.

Bale has achieved pretty much everything in club football and now at the age of 30 potentially with the injuries taking its toll - maybe he has no motivation to succeed any longer and taken a calculated decision to focus on money. To come back to England he will need to have the motivation and fight and desire and dont think he has that in him anymore. This is what makes someone like Ronaldo so great, he has that fight and desire even at his age even winning what he has won...

I agree regarding the pure greed but i dont think anyone turns down £1m a week. We all want to maximise our revenues etc. Just because you have earnt 100m doesnt mean you just settle for it...

wow. went to sleep last night when the Marca story had just been posted and this morning, there is six new pages of Gareth Bale news. If he decides to go to China, i'll be disappointed for us and for football in general. However, he earned the opportunity to make that choice. We we can only guess at his reasoning. Even if it is for the money, we don't know his plan since he is such a closed person. Could it be for a foundation or to purchase a club? Yes, it is a supreme waste of talent if he goes but what he gave to Southampton, Spurs and RM gave him the right to make that choice.

The one nagging factor is he always seemed to be the kind of person who wants to take on challenges. China doesn't seem to be the kind of challenge that would drive him. As close to the chest and as smart as he and his agent have played their cards,
this information leaking out doesn't seem help him in any way except to get the non-Chinese clubs to put their final bid in. I'd love to have him back but the way this transfer window is turning out, it is a minor disappointment at best.

I’ve never heard anyone ordinary or rich turn down more money

He could easily set up generations of his family for life on 100,000 grand per week I’d imagine...

No-one needs in the region of 500,000 to 600,000 grand, it’s obscene.

100,000 grand per week is obscene really too but seems to be new lowest rate.
No it isn’t.

Probably what's wrong with the world. Mind you, I gave up a highly lucrative career path in the City of London decades ago because I couldn't stand the greed mentality. I chose a much more rewarding but very insecure path and never regretted it for a second.

Well, i guess yeah i agree and im one of those greedy people but at the same time im in a job where whilst im paid very well ive rejected jobs which would pay me more but im happy where i am...

1m is a great deal but we wont know whether Bale has a business or not, dont know his aspirations after quitting football... he may have aspirations to do something that may require a great deal of investment.
