Do you think FIFA is corrupt? If so, why?

I would love to know what people think about it...

There is just something about it that doesn't seem right... Russian billionaires just putting money in peoples pockets to tick in that little box next to Russia.

Im so angry, disappointed and to be honest, it would of meant so much to all of us. It could of offered a lot as well, for the nation, economy... gutted.

Yes. /end thread.

24 (or 22 today) men deciding two world cups with a secret ballot. What could possibly go wrong. At least the olympics have 100 or so voters.

The bids who had the best results in the technical assessments for the 2018 and 2022 bids were both eliminated first.

If they are neither corrupt or incompetent, why bother with technical assessments if you are going to completely ignore them.

I do wonder how corrupt it is - are there secret brown envelopes passed under the table, or is it more a case of the Russians building facilities in Cameroon, or playing friendlies, or helping a certain member get re-elected?

The English media should be (covertly) pushed by the FA to rip FIFA apart, like the IOC was. No longer a secret ballot, no longer just the executive committee voting (why doesnt every country in FIFA get a vote? Make a rule you cant vote for a country in your region)

FIFA stinks, but you just need to look at the man at the top to realise that. England should stop being so desperate and wait, earn favours and then when we do go for it, have it sown up beforehand.

Its too much power for 22 men. Its tough to give a vote to everyone though. Should CONCACAF and Africa have five times the votes of South America? Seems unfair on them. Even if its 50 votes. It just makes it that much harder to make deals.

Like playing friendlies in Doha and the Caribbean

Here's a little taster, although there's oodles of stuff on the web. This concerns Jack Warner, one of the FIFA reps on whose votes we were counting on today;

"Auditors Ernst & Young revealed how Jack Warner was allowed to amass a fortune trading in tickets for the World Cup 2006 in Germany.
One report estimated he and son Daryan cleared a profit of at least £500,000 on 5,400 tickets for England, Mexico and Japan matches The lenient treatment of Warner, who controls 35 crucial votes that keep FIFA president Sepp Blatter in power, contrasts starkly with the fate of fellow executive committee member Ismail Bhamjee in June.

Caught selling a dozen World Cup tickets to English fans, Bhamjee was instantly expelled"

Everyone in CONCACAF knows Jack Warner is a total piece of shit. Every American. Every Mexican. Everyone outside of T&T knows it.

Didn't Panorama already answer this for us? Genuine question as I didn't actually see it.

Instead of getting booted off FIFA Warner had to make a 'donation' to some FIFA sponsored charity - then he worked a similar scam at the South Africa World cup, I believe via a Travel Agency owned by his family.

I think FIFA, sorry Blatter, take the view that if any malpractice, scam or fiddle remains undetected for over 48hrs it's classed as 'history', and therefore should not be subject to investigation.

Whenever some allegation is leveled at the top brass at FIFA, they close ranks and deny everything. It's a clandestine secret society where immense power and influence is placed in the hands of a few loathsome characters.

It is absolutely corrupt and I hope now that, instead of whinging about Panorama, our press go at FIFA and tear it open so all the worms can pour out.

For the 2010 & 2014 World Cups, corporate hospitality rights were exclusively awarded to MATCH Hospitality.

MATCH Hospitality is a joint venture, one of the shareholders is Infront Sports & Media.

The CEO and President of Infront Sports & Media is Philippe Blatter.

Philippe Blatter is Sepp's nephew.

It's preposterous to suggest FIFA could in any way be corrupt.

Caribbean certainly, Doha was because we owed Brazil a friendly as they played at Wembley, and Brazil have 'leased' out their friendly rights to a company for X million, and the company looks for hosts who will pay the most money

Those delegates at fifa are on easy street. Getting a £500 day rate and chauffered around everywhere and paying for nothing. They are all Sepp's pets, he just makes me sick looking at him and his smug little grin. The way that the voting went with Holland getting less in round 2 than in round 1 is really f-ing dodgy imo.

Also how Jack Warner has found himself in such a position is beyond me. I'm from the Caribbean and go there quite regularly and there is just no way that anyone there should have such a high position in fifa or should the caribbean region have so many votes in the fifa presidential elections.

I'm sure our media have been holding back a lot of stories about FIFA that are now going to see the light of day.

We invented the game, we should hold the World Cup every time. It our ball, if we can't play in our back garden we should take the ball away!

Seriously, i don't mind Russia getting it as a Eastern European nation has never hosted it before, but I'd have been seriously pissed if Spain or the USA had been given it again after last holding it back in 1982 and 1994 respectively!

FIFA need to be held to account though, there's no way that the organisational body of any sport let alone the biggest one should be shrouded in mystery. It really need to be more open and transparent. Also there should be a fixed term for Presidency so that no longer can a corrupt crook like Blatter run it for his own gains!
