The idea that we don’t bring any more quality strikers/wingers in is a very depressing one to me. Richy looks like he needs twice as many chances as Kane to score goals and our wingers look like serving up next to nothing. Solomon and Perisic are the only ones that have produced anything at all under Ange. We either need big money spent on a new striker or a couple of wingers. I really fear if we don’t that we will be outside the European places yet again and Ange won’t have been backed like he deserves at all. The blame of course will wrongly fall at his feet too. We’ve got some very good players and we’ll play some nice stuff but we look blunt in attack without Kane and you don’t finish anywhere near the top 6 without a top class forward line
Tbh I think we just need to brace ourselves for the likely reality of the rest of the window. We have been told by both the press and ITK’s that we need to sell first. Thus far we have sold 2 players all summer, one of which possibly our greatest ever player that we didn’t really want to sell, and we have 16 days of the window left. That’s 16 days to sell roughly 7 players before we can make any serious moves. Even if we said we only need to sell 2 or 3 I think we’d struggle.

Beyond that most quality players won’t be leaving in the last week of the window because their owners very likely won’t want to sell a prized asset that late and leave themselves short. If anything prices for quality players will only be going up the closer we get to deadline day.

Essentially you get to a point where the majority of players left on the market are opportunistic buys (ie those that have been transfer listed by their club or they themselves asked for a move). At this point we only have one serious link and that’s to a very talented but incredibly raw 21 year old CF. Tbf maybe we could also throw Schuurs in there although that also seems to have stalled. Chiesa (now that juve want to keep him) is not going to be sold in the last 2/3 days of the window. Not unless we pay handsomely which we never ever will. The likes of Fati however probably will but really would his acquisition make any real sense? It would be a ginormous gamble imo.

I get our squad is bloated and I know we need to sell, but time is running out and we have a lot players to shift. I don’t see this ending up any other way then this coming down to the wire with us picking up at least one (if not more) player that is a complete opportunistic gamble. Whilst I understand our need to trim the squad It’s also been handled so incredibly badly imo. Really it should have been done already even if that meant us accepting much low fees.

I know I’m lamenting the inevitable and who really knows what’s going on behind the scenes but I just feel like I’ve seen this show too many times before.

Fact is we just sold the best striker in the world and thus have been significantly weakened, have under 3 weeks until the window ends, our primary target is a 21 year old that’s only played half a season in the Jupiler pro league and have to sell before we can buy… I guess you could say I am somewhat concerned.

We've already spent the Kane money?? That's flabbergasting. Either Ornstein is terribly misinformed, or we are cheap as F.

Guess this whole 'project replace Kane' thing is wide of the mark.

I'm absolutely stunned and disgusted, if Ornstein's comments are true.
Raising ticket prices that were already extortionate and then breaking even in a transfer window after losing our best player really would be a new low for this club. Very much hope it doesn’t become a reality

This is literally a thread about Chiesa a quality winger come striker who we have enquired about... ;)

I badly want to believe signing Chiesa is a possibility but we’ve had so many false dawns under this ownership. It would be so typical to let progress slip through our fingers once again when I believe we’ve added some truly exciting players this summer in VDV, Maddison and Udogie. I keep banging on but I feel the difference between us kicking on this season or not will be whether we add quality up front or not. I feel if we don’t we could have as many as 7-8 CL level players in our 11 and it wouldn’t matter because you don’t consistently win matches with a blunt attack. Having Son and Kane in the past who were so absolutely lethal in taking big and important chances has always been the difference. We no longer have Kane and we’re playing Son in a position that doesn’t play to his strengths, so I sit and wonder where we are going to see that ruthless edge come from without quality additions

Are you talking about chiesa? If not you're adding to it.

Are you talking about the player? If not you are adding to it.

Re player: I don't think it matters to much what we need as the recruitment policy is flawed and we are never in a good place. He can uplift the squad and all for it.

Ornstein was on tv saying we’ve already pre-spent the Kane money. Even if we get a one or two more in I wouldn’t expect anything splashy.
We haven't even spent the Kane money have we?

Am I right in thinking that Chiesa is the only actual winger we've been linked with? Gnonto and Eze are AMs..

I do hope we have a back up because neither Son nor Kulu are orthodox wingers either.

Gnoto is definitely an orthodox winger.

How I wish for balennon again. Never had proper wingers since.

To be fair, very few teams play with orthodox wingers these days - they're all inverted

Bale even developed more into a RWF as his career progressed

I would take the gamble and bring him in if I were in charge of transfers. Such a good player for now and would already be a replacement for Son when needed too.
