And some are walking around thinking all is well and we’re on track for trophies.
It's crazy, isn't it? So, many "I reckon we'll win something next year" comments who just skate over the fact that Liverpool and City, probably soon to be joined by Chelsea will be light years ahead of us next year and they've been scooping up all the silverware for the last few years and will do for the forseeable future.

I guess if the top 7 miss the Carabao Cup we'll have a chance and Jose will paint it as some big victory.

It’s not a black and white choice though, is it? Where’s the option for ‘pragmatic’ football and 7/8th place and Europa League football. Mourinho’s presence alone does not guarantee silverware. Especially for our club who perpetually struggle to get over the line as the missing jigsaw piece is never addressed in favour of replacing other pieces.
I'm not one of those people who thinks that Mourinho=silverware like it's some kind of mathematical equation but his record does speak for itself. My only concern though is that any manager or coach is going to be up against because the funds aren't there compared to some of the other clubs around us. I know that many fans - probably more so the ones that want Mourinho gone - say that he's a short term results manager but this is going to be a longer term situation I think. Levy might even have one eye on Sacramento to see how he develops within the coaching setup as a possible future first team coach. It's probably going to get fraught on here because every bad result will be a continued validation from some that it was a bad appointment.

Well next years carabao cup won't have any of the top 7 prem clubs so if all we care about is silverware then lets have it.

This is my thing. Mourinho has always had a simple formula, build a mean defence and then buy the best attacking players and let them do their own thing. He's not gonna be allowed to do that here, because we don't have the means.

Other teams are so far ahead of us with personel and playing style, what is the point of just grubbing out results? Where is it gonna get us? Building a new team with a high-tempo style is the only way to narrow the gap and it's a long-term project and needs a hungry young manager.

The hurt and pain of not winning anything under Poch when we clearly deserved to has turned some fans into blinkered trophy zealots. Yes, winning trophies is great and is the aim, but they are the result of building something, and in today's PL, with two remarkable teams like Liverpool and City, you've got to build something pretty amazing to have a chance.

The positive would be that having a long term project would hopefully allow a manager of head coach to see a gradual increase in financial backing as revenue from the stadium starts to seep through. For now, I want to stay positive over Jose simply because it's hard to see Levy panicking this early.

Some fans still think all was well when Poch was in charge this season and we'd have been better off keeping him. The manager without an away win in the league for almost a year.

We didn't, but we trusted a manager who'd already built one excellent team capable of top 3 finishes and champions league finals, to build another and better team... As opposed to a divisive character who's success was built entirely on vast funds, at clubs which win all the time anyway.

But whatever, Jose is the reality now, so honestly no point dragging all this up again.

Didn't what? Think everything was fine and he would have turned it around? There were and are plenty on here who are still pining for him to return like an old lover.

We got to one CL final, and finished in the top 3 with the best team we've had since I was born, and he failed to get over the line in any competition with it. In fact we perpetually underachieved when it came to the crunch under him, CL run aside last year.

He bought some utter drivel in the transfer market as well so I dont believe giving him the chance to build a better team with new players would have worked that well. Most of the players in our best team were here before he arrived. He coached them really well, yes, but he didn't buy them or pick them himself.

Christ, and we complain about other clubs fans being entitled. CL finals and successive title runs and top 3 finishes, for the first time in forever, and it's not good enough?

Ok. Here's hoping we improve on that with Jose.

Oh, we drew with Manchester United in a game everyone thought we’d lose so of course the Poch fundamentalists are out barking at traffic pretending we weren’t shit for the last 18 months of his tenure.

Fuck me swinging.

Where did anyone say it wasnt good enough? All I said was he never had enough to get over the line. We should have won something with the team we had but didn't. I think if we had a different manager who had won things before, managing that team we would have won something. All hypothetical of course but we were probably the best team in the county for 18 months.

It’s really peculiar, like the “Spurs” news accounts on Twitter who post an update every time Eriksen or Trippier register an assist.

They’re former employees who have moved on, get over it.
