I mean we won only once in 32 years at Stamford bridge. It goes to show the problem is deeper than current managersBecause the City manager is so arrogant he plays to our strengths and thinks his team will prevail through more skill and better players, whereas Tuchel sets up Chelsea to play on our weakness and has given the rest of the league the blueprint in how to play against us. Arteta is just as arrogant fortunately too and Klopp.
!!! Fuck off Niles Crane
Emerson was pretty good defensively for large parts of that game. Davies is fine in a back three. Hojbjerg can be improved upon but he's not tragic. 2 against 3 in midfield most of the game.Emerson sess, Davies, and hojberg are not good enough.
One of the most over used words in this thread.the performance was shocking
our wing backs are key to the attack and Emerson is terrible !Emerson was pretty good defensively for large parts of that game. Davies is fine in a back three. Hojbjerg can be improved upon but he's not tragic. 2 against 3 in midfield most of the game.
Yeah he said Tuchel said it kicked off because he wouldn't look him in the eye, but Tuchel didn't say that at all. He played it all down to pure emotion and gave no actual reason at all.
Quality was an issue in the touches and passes for sure. Kane and Son in particular. But for me it was much more Conte. No one had any time on the ball, and they did whatever they wanted in their central build up. For me, it’s telling that neither City nor Liverpool did what Chelsea did to us today or the 3 other times last season with Conte. The switch opened us up yes, but they didn’t constantly have players breathing on ours whenever we received a pass. It was their on the ball quality that truly dominated in the build up before and after Conte’s switch. We had no answer out of possession.I think people are overplaying the tactics here. We were right to go to a 4 as we were behind and playing terribly, but it also left us so open, we easily could have conceded another 2. I think the problem in first half was lack of quality on the day.
With Kane and Richarlison up top and Son and Kulu in wide mid or Kane back as attacking mid and Son up?
Agree with what you are saying but Conte has specifically struggled vs Tuchel in recent matchups. Annoying he didn't learn ahead of today's game but we don't struggle like we do against Tuchel in any other matchup, even against Klopp and Guardiola.People saying that's how teams win titles is total delusion lol.
I'm ecstatic about the result today but the performance was shocking, we are miles away from challenging for the league on the basis of today. You won't see City or Liverpool going to Chelsea and getting played off the park like we did.
At the end of the day, PEH, Davies, Sess, Royal for starters are not title winning players in their positions.
They are miles off the likes of Jorginho, Kante, Reece James, Koulibaly, Cucarella etc.
I said before the game, more than the result I wanted to see us put in a performance that showed we belong at this level. We've had the reverse. A lucky smash and grab and played like we were lower level minnows who just stole a point.
We probably won't play as badly at that again all season, at least I hope not, but we weren't just poor today, we looked absoslutely miles off the level required.
Even the Kane interview afterwards was weird, he was like "today was all about showing how far we've come", but we didn't show anything. We showed the gap is still huge between the two teams in a match up. If today was the players showing how far we've come, we haven't come anywhere.
It's a one off game I get it, but fucking hell, that was utter shite.
I'm so happy we didn't lose and mugged them off at the end, but on the other I'm so disappointed with the performance today. Why can't we ever just turn up against them and give as good as we get?
Out of the two teams today, Chelsea will be the ones fighting it out with the top 2, not us. But football is weird, if we do the business against the other teams we can finish above them.
But I still come back to, I want upgrades on the above players, they just aren't top tier end of story.
Absolutely not, young defenders make mistakes and have poor games and that’s why we needed to sign an experienced player for that position. Sess just needs to keep working on his game as he’s already shown improvement since Conte came in.And this is where Sess can learn from Perisic after these games. He's also still very young and growing physically. I wouldn't write him off based on today personally.
With Kane and Richarlison up top and Son and Kulu in wide mid or Kane back as attacking mid and Son up?
Some of the posts in here at half time were just absolutely shocking. Tuchel set up his team brilliantly to nullify us. Our game plan is obvious and Tuchel (unlike Pep and Klopp) is willing to adapt his game plan to shut us down. The good news is that few teams have the ability to set up like Chelsea did today. Reece James was the best player on the pitch by a mile and he was able to both shut down Son and overload Sess. Jorginho and Kante were incredible for the first 60 mins and we couldn't get close to them with our tactical set up. Thiago Silva and Koulibaly were both so good at coming through the back of Kane and Deki without getting called for it. Despite how well Chelsea played and Tuchel's spot on tactics, the only goal we gave up before the tactical switch was an absolute screamer from a CB on a corner. 9/10 times Koulibaly misses that shot. We were too sloppy when we had the chance to break, but frankly Chelsea's press was well-executed and sufficating. There was just no margin for error and we kept hitting slightly errant balls or taking too long.
The better news is that Conte was willing to change things up AND we had depth on the bench to make those changes. Once Richie came on the game opened up for both sides. Mendy ended up making as many good saves as Lloris did. We probably got lucky with the no-call on the Bentancur tackle (though I think they got lucky with the no call against Deki on their goal), and Romero could have cost us with the stupid hair tug (though I thoroughly stand by the assertion that hair that long is asking to be pulled ...).
So far this season we have played two teams that had our number tactically last year. Hasenhuttl and Tuchel both out thought Conte last year. Chelsea beat us 4 times and we got a draw and a loss against Soton. We're 4 points better off than last year already. Sure the first half was frustrating, but I personally see real progress from last year. We had a real plan B today - in the recent past we've barely had a plan A. Too many folks on here yell too much about Conte not starting our fancy new toys and trying to blame certain scapegoats for a bad tactical set up.
Speaking of Romero..
