This game showed the limitations of Dier and Davies.

I feel sympathy for Davies because when we went to 442 Son just abandoned him and he was 2v1 all the time.

Dier not good enough bringing the ball out and Davies too. We had a lot of safe possession but they needed to step into midfield and drive us forward.

We really need just one special defender. We should try to kidnap Bastoni
Fuck me give it a rest, this is getting boring. We know you don't like them, fine it's your opinion but to scapegoat 2 players that were a long, long way down the list of poor performers yesterday is childish nonsense.
You even said yourself Son abandoned Davies so how can he be at fault?!

And there was no way either of them (nor Romero who you conveniently don't dig out for his distribution) could bring the ball out; every time Lloris rolled the ball to a defender, they had at least 4 blue shirts suffocating them.

it's not only the limitations of those 2. I would say that it's the inability of our wbs to be the outlets they're supposed to be. The box press was effective because our wbs don't have the ability(royal)/ confidence(sess) to beat their man. Once we beat 1 man, the press collapses. Tuchel honed in on the fact and were very tight on those 2.

Why all the negativity? We were never fixing our team in one window. Its better , we didn't roll over , we scored against them, drew and annoyed the fucking life out of them in the process. We will beat them at home and nett 4 points..

I totally disagree. Chelsea came out all guns blazing and we didnt. They tactically outplayed us for the first hour and we were slow to react. None of the players played well and credit to Chelsea for that as they harried and hurried us and all over us as soon as we got the ball. As soon as we got the ball to the midfield or wing backs, they won it back

You dont know Bastoni will have done any better.

Also, why was Tuchel so rattled today? I know he has some personal issues off the field etc and it must have been a bit nuts behind the scenes at Chelsea these last 6 months but what the hell?

You'd have thought we played them off the park and he was trying to distract from that or something the way he acted.

His post-match comments were light hearted and he jokingly likened his disgraceful actions to a hard tackle. Obviously, he's trying to play down his embarrassing behaviour when Conte attempted to shake his hand as part of the managers basic etiquette.

Let's face it, the man is a prize knob.

(Also, it should be pointed out, I don't think Tuchel would have enjoyed a 'hard tackle' with Conte in their playing days)!

But then what's our threat? We were losing we didn't need to stifle the game we needed to open it up

we needed to establish a level of control in the game which we never had outnumbered in midfield they were able to push up on to Son and Kulusevski who weren't in the game and our wing backs rarely got on the front foot - closing that down might have given us some control but that we don't know imo though opening up a game when you have so little of the ball would have been madness -

I find this a very naive view. Chelsea lost three times at home last season and at least two of those defeats (Arsenal and Brentford) were relative anomalies during a period where their form tanked. The other defeat was a 1-0 win to Man C. Liverpool drew there 2-2. Even the very best teams in the league will normally have a task on their hands away to Chelsea, they are a good team and playing them at their ground is not straightforward. They also always seem to be bang up for playing us. A point there is a very good result not least because it stops them pulling three points ahead of us. And the point was a reward for us hanging in there and playing to the final whistle even if it wasn’t a great performance.
Yes, fair enough.

Penny for Carney’s thoughts sat next to Souness talking about “men playing football”

There has been a great deal of vitriol for his comment. I dont think it is at all proportionate to what he said. Womens game is the womens game and mens game is the mens game - both games should be treated in its own right. Its the very message that was discussed during the Euros actually... theyre two kinda separate games.

If he was doing punditry ona womans game I am certain he would have said its a womans game - but none of us would have batted an eyelid.

Now after the dust has settled you look at the stats and we had 2 more shots on target than them, Lloris quite well protected, xG was between 1 and 2 for both teams. So not much difference in front of goal. But we lost the battle in midfield clearly. Is that because we have only the outnumbered two in there and the wing backs were not helping?

When Richie came on what was the shape of the team then for those of you there? because you can't really see on TV. Media saying 4-2-4, which would seem to make the midfield problem worse. Then again it was Richie's aggression that probably made the difference.

Romero was weak too but I know he's a great player so I am not too worried about him. He just looked physically off it in the first half.

I agree with @hamsup_sotong when he said it was also a problem with Sess and Royal. Kane was bad too holding the ball up.

Chelsea allowed Dier to have the ball. We had lots of safe possession and they knew he wouldn't hurt them. They only pressed when we tried to build through the sides, hammered us in the Romero, Royal, Kulu channel.

Also Dier hurt us in the 2nd goal, gets caught too far over. Son vacates too early but Dier jumps to Haivertz wrongly.

Davies did what he normally does, scrambles hard which is admirable but if we just had a real physical LCB like Chelsea had with Koulibaly it would make a massive difference

If you’re old enough to remember.
We have had our share of refereeing decisions not going our way against Chelsea.
Two that stick in my mind was Hasselbank tripping himself up and getting a penalty. Lampards goal I think in a cup game not crossing the line but was given as a goal. Atkinson was the ref I think.
I’m sure there are loads more. It’s about time we had some luck.

This is our worst fixture of the whole season isn't it, the team against which we have the worst head-to-head record in the PL, in an away fixture where we've won once in 34 tries (lol). A point is a pretty great result, one we've only managed in about a third of our matches at their place.

Both Hojbjerg and Bentacur needed to do a LOT more to help the CB's out when we were trying to play out; both were very static and CB's had no options / nothing to hit.

Hopefully it’s a mentality thing and that draw might make us less crap going to Chelsea in future.

It’s out of the way now though so hopefully we can get a good run of wins now!

Also @Nayim60yards
You’re both probably right but celebrating draws against rivals (also like we used to against Arsenal back in the day) has always felt a bit off for me.
I’m talking more about the scenes at full time maybe.
It's a few celebrations in one go when you nick a draw like that. You have stolen two points from them which hampers their ambitions, stolen a valuable point yourself from nearly having zero, saved yourself having to read any more articles about the team lacking resilience or fight and pissed off a local rival's fans as well.

Thiago and Koulibaly were all over Kane and Kulu. James managed Son excellently. Every time the ball went into our front 3s feet they pressurised, hit and tackled. Our back 3 couldn't lay a glove on Chelseas forward line. Their second goal comes from Koulibaly being all over Kulusevski
