Speaking of aging players, Muller just gets better and better. Dominating the empty spaces and predatory for his two goals.

One of the most intelligent players of our generation. Like a supercharged Sheringham and can probably play for as long too.

uff nice little Suarez stamp in there.

Barca couldn't deal with that press and pace. Bayern look more Barca than Barca. But Barca haven't been Barca for a long time now.

The only way that Barca stand a chance to get back into this for me is to take of a midfielder, bring on Griezmann and dropp Messi deeper.

It's not over yet, even this broken Barca is capable of mounting comebacks of epic proportions. But they really need to come out fighting.

What's funny @journeyman ? We were really passive for the majority of last year, just like Barca tonight, teams were cruising through our defence with ease. Under Jose we've become more aggressive and more compact.

Which shows if you don't turn up with aggression you've got no chance.

What’s so weird is all these Barca players are fantastic. But for the past 3 or 4 years, it seems that they’ve all lost the ability to do anything except watch Messi carry the team on his back
The thing is they aren't fantastic. Look at that midfield, look at defense. Busquets isn't the player he once was, same with Alba and pique. Suarez is still effective but has lost a yard of pace. But mostly look at the midfield and it's decidedly average.

If we bought their entire first team we'd be close

Yeah. Their tie against Liverpool last year and this tie against Bayern also highlight how football at the highest level has completely moved past the tiki-taka football.

I don't necessarily agree. i think tiki taka works (and to an extent it is what Man City still play from the keeper out) but they don't have the right players anymore.
Well Ricky Puig is quality and would have fit in to the old system but you need a few more players on the same page to make tiki taka work.

They bought some good players like dembele, frenkie and griezmann but never used them properly.

Vidal is not the right man for the job, and their defence is putrid.

It would be a huge climb down for Poch having promised so many times he'd never manage Barca. It would be a credibility killer.

De jong is great, but the rest you’re right. Regardless, there’s no excuse for this team to be getting embarrassed in front of the world. This is Barca not Birmingham

The studio here just said this is the oldest XI Barca have fielded in a CL match since Rijkaard was manager.

That says a lot.

I dunno. Muller has come back strong, but a few years ago he was considered to be down and out. Great to see him back at his best though. He's only 30 though, which is pretty shocking really. but his prime to me was 2012 - 2016

Barca scouting/buying has been really poor. All that money spent and they're a shadow of the Guardiola team. Shameful really.

De Jong has been a big disappointment this year, and needs to work hard to turn it around.

Bayern are doing this with everyone though. It's crazy just how powerful this bayern team is. Doesn't matter who you are you can't switch of for a moment. When we played Bayern we actually were on top for large parts of the first half. But bang, they can just rip through you and ten minutes, 3 goals, 4 goals, whatever.

I think they were too arrogant with their recruitment and the players they had.

Believing that all they had to do was buy the next hot property (Dembele, De Jong) and they'd just seamlessly fit into the great Barca team. They clearly took their eye off the ball and started to bring in older players like Vidal to try balance their spending. It's been a disaster.

They should have been more pragmatic. The Griezmann and Coutinho transfers were bonkers and they were clearly trying to compensate for losing Neymar embarrassingly. They could have spent that 280m on several solid La Liga players.

Partey, Saul, etc

FC Bayern not playing as good as one could think. Not stable at the back, letting Barcelona cross. But it’s basically game over for Barcelona anyways so
