It's great to be back in it and we do need to be in it every year.

However, I am not going to place too much expectations in this comp next year.

With Conte's record in Europe and balancing the domestic campaign, I think it's far more important to ensure we are set up for domestic honours.

If we get out of the group and go far then, fantastic, that will be an incredible bonus. But what I really wish for is a challenge at the title and to win the FA Cup.

How much do we get as a club for CL qualification.

This is from the Swiss Ramble on Twitter for this seasons money. But I'll use it to estimate for Spurs.

We should get about 16m for participation, around 20m based on our 10 year UEFA coefficient, around 10m for TV money. So that's a base of around 45m

Then you get about 3m for a group stage win and 1m for a draw. And then add 10m or so for getting to the last 16.

Probably around 60m mark if all goes well

It feels good to be back playing with the big boys of europe, but at the same time the thought that we need to face those teams feels horrifying :cautious:

I don't, too big a game and we may get carried away by the occasion. Prefer a similar team from abroad.
Wait is it a big game? Tottenham playing Celtic means very little to me. Maybe it's a generational thing because Celtic have never been any good in the last 20 years, but the players are going to have the same meh opinion.

The Scottish league isn't a good league, Celtic are not going to be a particularly dangerous pot 4 club, definitely no better than most pot 4 clubs and much much easier than Monaco. TO make it clear Carter Vickers and Joe Hart are very good players for the Scottish league, while Eduoard was clearly too good for the league. I mean it really makes rangers achievement in reaching the final really stand out.

I don't think it's a particularly big game or a particularly hard game. The advantage is that Celtic is very close which means the away day isn't going to be that disruptive, they haven't won against an Engish club in the last 6 meetings against them. The advantage is that Celtic players might be a bit more hyped. But I don't think it would mess with the heads of our players at all, who I don't think will perceive it a big European tie.

All sounds very logical but the Celtic fans will make it into a big game. Ok so they haven't beaten an English team for a while but....I'd still rather play one of the other pot 4 teams.

So did our short stint in the conference league give us the extra coefficient points to get into pot 2?

We thrive in big games. We shouldn’t fear anyone. I’m not saying cl will be a piece of cake or that we will win it, but we are a big club, and we should not fear playing the other big clubs.

I think so we are 14th we’d have 5pts less and be joint 18th. 1 place below Arsenal. I think we’d have just missed out on pot 2. Big difference tbh as pot 2 looks very strong.

So as things stands. Pot 4 only 2 teams decided one being Celtic which would be great.

Hardest;

PSG/Real/Bayern
Spurs
Dortmund/inter
Pot 4

Easiest;
Frankfurt
Spurs
Sporting/Shaktar
Pot 4

The coefficient points really are ridiculous. There’s virtually no reward for being CL as opposed to the two lesser competitions. Roma ended with 23 points, Villarreal got to a CL semifinal and got 24 points. It’s a complete nonsense. Arsenal will likely end up with more points than us next season.

No that’s really going to hurt us in 4 years time.

No it hurts us now as Arsenal have been hurt dropping to 18th. Had we won the conference we could have got into the top 10 (105 pts) We need a good season to maintain where we are now. In 4 years it drops off and if anything will be beneficial, as long as still in Europe.

Hurt us for four more years is more correct. We're lucky to be pot 2 this season and if we have any more bad seasons in the next four we can forget about pot 2 for a while.

But those five points are obviously better than none.
