Why was the bored thread locked? I agree with Wooderz and have moaned to family and friends alike that spurs under Redknapp bore me. Long ball football just isnt my thing.

I don't want Spurs to try to match teams like Wigan with physical long punt football with no imaginatiion, I'd be happy loosing (like we did today with long ball football) but with us trying to play through the other team, by nice passing and moving.

Fuck off with the Redknapp bashing. Keep your knee jerk reactions under wraps.

We're only a couple of players short of being a decent side, judge him at the end of Jan when he's had a chance to build his own side.

Reminds me a lot of how our away-games were with George Graham. I remember one particular game at Pride Park, where we had 7 defenders in the starting line-up. Lost 1-0, with no shots on target.
Gaaaah, we're so boring!

probably locked because you posted it during the match. although we've seen this match before, just change redknapp's name to pleat and it all becomes familiar. I'm NOT bashing redknapp as I have faith in him overall. But today's debacle with defoe running around like a chicken with his head cut off and king at defensive centre mid made me rub my eyes and take a look to confirm they weren't running an old match...

don't take it too hard, they did in fact play utter cack today - locked or not

check the player rating thread for my post,... locked? I'll be attcked for sure...

Maybe because theres a match thread already.

Why not post in there rather than start 20 new threads which say exactly what everyone is saying in other threads.

I agree we are playing some horrible stuff, we still pass it about in spells but nothing like the Tottenham Hotspur we know.

We have been long ball for a few seasons now, ots just that in the past we have had Berbatov and Keane that could create stuff. Too often a lucklustre midfield does not make adequate progress and the ball goes to the centre back for a "hoof". Hate to admit it but that its what it has been like.

Now that our forward players are of lesser ability the sterility of our midfield is showing.

That said we are in a relegation battle and as long as teams are willing to battle harder than us then we will continue to be poor. Our good football comes with confidence and we have not started well for the last two seasons and playing catch up breeds a certain type of panic football.

You're probably right Paxtonite, the ability of berbatov and possibly Kanoute before him to be able to bring the ball under control instantly has meant once we've done the long punt we've been able to build attacks directly in their third of the match. Lacking that quality we get to watch the ball bounce around up near their goal until they get the ball and start a new attack against us.

With response to other comments on here, firstly I think a new thread about the style of Tottenham is good to have, yes it can be put in match threads, but this is something we're witnessing a lot and is an issue about the style of football we play and I'm not happy about it. When I saw someone had started a thread up about it and it had been locked I thought i was fair game to chat about it. The thread starter mentioned not just long punts but extremely slow build up play which is irritating to watch.

And finally NichHSpurs, I may indeed be Redknapp bashing, but it certainly isn't a knee jerk reaction, perhaps just the straw that broke the camel's back?? I have been sitting and watching and judging, I'm now speaking.

So my post was locked because it was made during the game? My post wasn't a match post, we've been boring me for ages now, not just today. Should we leave the SC site alone for 90 mins each weekend?

I think people need to look a bit deeper, Wigan have a very narrow pitch which means you have to play direct or you'll never get out of your own half. For the system we had today to work, the full bacls are very important. I thought Bale was dire today, we played ok until Bent came on and then the ball did'nt stick at all just kept coming back. I was surprised at that substitution to be honest just handed the inititive to Wigan which they duly took up.

Aren't pitches regulation, apart from a few feet here and there? And of course these are millionnaire players, surely 3 feet shouldn't matter?

I don't think it should be used as an excuse, and as you said in the original thread and I've tried to continue here, it's not just todaly, it's pretty much every game and it's not much fun! Even if pitch size is the reason for today's long ball exploits, what the reason for all the othr matches we've been playing.

I have a bad feeling we're gonna be being critised for us not getting behind the team, but I'm sure we both are, I'll tune in and watch every match and cheer the team on, it would be nice to have something to give a bit of cheer to.

yes we've played long balls in the past few seasons, but as pointed out, our front two turned it into an art, even mido vs fulham was proper route one stuff, but worked with two lovely finishes to add a bit of gloss to proceedings. it just seems that if you bring on bent to partner defoe, and then the only tactic seems to be to revert to punting then its just conceding possession time and again - i can understand the balance of the squad not being right but seriously harry defoe and bent will never ever work with long balls so why bother - as crazy as it might seem we do have strengths that other teams dont have, so we keep having to play to them surely? even if we're playing cack, we dont have the personell for an aerial bombardment so its pretty pointless...
