I know we shouldn't fetishise this like gooners, but I've been watching Spurs since 1995, and I can't think of a time other than now that we've had a good defence....

S*l was good, Ledley was great, there have been a couple of OK attacking full backs (Carr, Ziege & some bloke called Gareth who's gone to Spain) - but I can't think of any time (apart from now) I've felt confident about our back line

When have we been better than now?

To be fair it's not only the defence but the amount of protection they get in front of them from the midfield and Harry that teams since 1995 haven't had although we've always had special players that stood out.

Love Kane chasing down he keeper (Gomes today), forcing the throw, or aimless punt.

I was soooo wrong about Dier in midfield. I really rate him, but thought Poch was just gonna use him as a stop gap. My MVP for the season.

This season is statistically the best we have ever been defensively at this stage in a top flight season (81st season).

The stats for our early years are sketchy but if we keep a clean sheet against City i think that might stretch to our whole entire history as a football club. Madness!

It's great and unlike ManU and some other teams it doesn't take away from our offense. It's not just back 4 and Lloris, midfield is doing amazing job but so is Kane and wingers and everyone really. Lamela, Alli, Son do fantastic job at pressing, even Eriksen. That's the beauty of Pochettino's system and he has right players for it. He always preaches about "philosophy" and there is a very good reason for it and we are seeing the rewards of it now. All this is quite unreal considering the age of our squad, if we can keep our best players and coach sky is the limit.

That said Alderweireld is one of the best transfers in history of this club. Reading saints forum I actually expected him to be really good but never like this. CCV should just learn from him.

Wow, that is pretty amazing - Spurs has definitely taught me to take one game at a time though....

.

This bit im not sure I agree with in that I think part of the reason for these types of performances is exactly because we have a young squad that has the energy and desire to go hunting the ball down. I think the youth we have is a key part of our success right now and an advantage over the rest of the league despite the normal benefits of experience etc. Other squads dont have a whole first 11 of young, energetic pressers and it only takes one or two to let the side down which is why its hard to replicate it. These are young guys with energy who want to achieve something and you can see that in their game. I think as the squad matures will be interesting to see if that hunger stays and ability to press stays intact or will Poch have to regularly promote younger talents to keep this type of game plan alive.

Without a doubt, at least for the time I have been supporting spurs which was the late 80s when I was a wee boy. We have had great defenders who I don't need to name and the odd good keeper, but as a unit (and I include Dier in that) we are solid as fook.

Its probably bad for the neutrals as there is no danger of there being a 5-3 or a 6-4 at any of our games these days, infact if we concede more than one its a minor shock. Great teams are built on a solid defence. Those 0-0, and 1-1 draws at the start of the season while crap at the time were a positive foundation for this team, which we are now seeing the fruits of now that we are an attacking force as well.

Oh and we have 11 defenders, there are no passengers in this team with a free role. There is not a single team in the league that presses teams like we do. We are as good without the ball as we are with it

Agree with this.

King and Woodgate were class but both a bit broken when we had them together.

To be honest I think its right to say that Poch is my Spurs favorite coach by a long way. I love the team and the way we're playing.
happy days

a combination between really good players and tactic makes our present defence rock solid. Think we have great quality in all of them, toby, jan, kevin, davies, rose, kyle and trippier. Probably the best unit that ive seen.
But individually, King is no 1.

This is the best team we've had defensively and from an organisation perspective that I can remember.

What is our record lowest goals conceded in the prem? Surely we're on course to beat it by some way.

It's amazing how well we press. I was watching the West Ham game earlier and kept getting frustrated with how much time the team in attack were given on the ball by both teams

Spurs have now brain washed me with the view of press press press. It's like playing Fifa and the call second defender button is stuck in

I fucking love it. Every other team just seem lazy now
