Whilst im not trying to defend bentleys performances in anyway shape or form, he was deprived of a full preseason due to the fact blackburn knew he was off and because he was injured too.
Now if we think back to last season lennon didnt have a preseason and was equally ineffective so i think he needs more time, but definitely needs to be dropped for the time-being.

September called. it wants its excuse back.

As yet Bentley has not played on the right in a 442. When he does we will see what he can do (although I have been impressed with his workrate). I am sadly not surprised to see some of our fans jump straight onto his back, after a lifetime of supporting the club I have finally realised that it is the gobby fans that are in fact holding us back.

Les Ferdinand almost said the same thing on TV the othher week when he said that he a a season ticket holder but can't use his seat as the fans around him get on his tits. (my words not his).

And I suppose the fans of the biggest and most succesful clubs in the world are shrinking violets to man, who never critisize the players or management.....

Get over yourself lol the fans don't matter to anyone. You are not important. You do not affect shit that matters.

I go to most matches home and away and if any player is obviously not putting it in you are going to get pissed off, doesn't mean your getting on a players back. I have been all the way up to Newcastle and West Brom in the past week as well as the game against Fulham, Bentley has been average in all three. This no pre season BS has got to stop. He has now played in 23 first team games as well as playing in the Feyenoord tournament and home game against Roma. That is plenty of time to be up to speed but he quite clearly isn't. If he aint happy playing on the left then don't play him because so far this season Lennon has been the better performer on the right. If a player is having a shocker fair enough, it happens, Luka didnt play well yesterday but he still keeps chasing the ball down, Bentley plays crap and doesn't even offer that, and that is what annoys the fans further.

Why is everyone on Bentleys back.... It isnt his fault that our manager doesnt want to play him in his most natural position.

He is a far superior player to lennon on the right and the reason Bentley performed for hughes was because he showed faith in him week in week out and played him in his prefferred position on the right..

Madness that you all just chat crap about him

I don't really see how you can come to that conclusion. have you seen much of Lennon this season?

Bentley's had plenty of chances on the right side of midfield. Lennon is in better form so that's why he's currently there.
Personally I don't think Bentley offers enough. He doesn't track back well enough, he's lacking pace, he wanders inside too often. The one area of his game which should shine is his delivery & that's been extremely disappointing so far.
Word is that he thinks he's an absolute star & his attitude is poor.
Personally wouldn't be disappointed with a straight swap with Downing.

Take you point about natural position but I'm also not sure you've seen any games this season

If I was going to take anyone from City that we could realistically get, it'd be Daniel Sturridge. He's going to be quality.

Overall as a player when played in correct position I think you will find that Bentley has done more...

Moving Bentley to the right isn't going to improve his speed or his strength...

he looked great last night. if we can offload bent and replace him with sturridge, and get a couple of target men too we should be ok upfront

Bentley has been utter crap in a Spurs shirt so far. To me he looks abit top heavy and not quite Sharp enough in game play... either his doing to much upper weights in the gym or eating to many pies.

Oh how I've missed Spurs Chat, and it's portal into another dimension.

The bloke's just trying too hard, because he wants to be a success. It's that simple. He's over-thinking and over-cooking everything. He just needs to relax and play his football.

Well, I fink hees too relaxed and dun't giv a shit

I'll just pre-empt that sort of response by dismissing it as rubbish. There we go. Sorted.

I've seen him enough times for Blackburn and England (U21s especially) to know that he's a good player, but the bottom line is that, for us he's been total gash / pony / tripe.

I don't know what he needs (a big cuddle or a kick up the arse) but I hope he gets it soon. He's a proven Premiership performer and shouldn't need a season to bed in like Modric or Pav.

I think we'd be taking at least a £5m loss on him if we sold him now.

Realistically, where would he go?

Doubtful for a team who will come up with £15m.

Think he'll be here for a while so we'll have to hope he's going to come up with the good eventually....

If the message purveying from this thread is indicative of what the general opinion is in the seats of WHL which projects on to the pitch, I guess most of you will get your wishes granted as half the team will want out of this gaseous bowl of vitriol.

The Fulham audience was...just that. The library would have been noisier.

Half the battle ahead will be won by the message the WHL faithful projections, and true to cause right now, it's not pleasant to be on the receiving end of.

So we should play Bentley on the right instead of Lennon because he has been better over the last few seasons, leaving aside the fact that Lennon has been a helluva lot more effective THIS season?
