Oh boy 😳😳😳😏

Mikel Arteta says his Arsenal side have to be in the conversation to sign PSG forward Kylian Mbappe this summer.

Did he bring it up, or was it a question that was looking for an answer? I know we love to hate certain clubs and certain folk, but journalists asking the questions are more often than not what lead to these answers.

He also said something along the lines of he doesn't think it will happen, but saying they have to be in the conversation is a fluff line for their fans to make them feel big.

I bet Pep, Klopp, Ange, Ten Hag and probably Ange will be asked about Mbappe either today or at some point.

Well maybe :) ... I agree... I just wonder if I was Mbappe, would Arsenal even be considered as an option for my next big and very important career-step. ?

If Arteta got the question. Of course he has to answer it.

But can they even afford his wages ? ... or why would he go there. Apart from their French-history. ?

I get that Arteta wants Arsenal to act like a big club or send signals that they think big. I still find it a bit cringeworthy...

A simple answer could be: any club in the world would love to have Mbappe 😏🤷‍♂️

I can almost guarantee that Ange will just say “No, mate” instead of make believing that we have a shot at signing him.

To be fair though and much as I dislike Lego head and hate to say it, I reckon with a quality centre forward and a proper box to box midfielder to sit in with Rice and Odengaard they’d be pretty much the finished package.

So say in a crazy world Mbappe did join them and they managed to get that central midfielder I couldn’t see any massive weaknesses in their team.

He probably will react to it that way. But it wasn't like Arteta brought up the subject was it? These journos look for the sensationalist clickbaity headlines. Don't put that on the manager, in this case Arteta. He answered in the way he felt best, and reading quotes can also make them come across differently to watching a small clip and then a full press conference. Tone and context is everything.

Sorry, this led to me going on a rant about how comments are taken out of context and it just annoys me that people react to the headline/sub headline they read rather than take the time to view it in its full context. In this instance they'll see Arteta and this quote and immediately laugh at him.

Arsenal are getting over confident, this is good. The issue with the celebrations isn't the actual celebration, it's the fact that it exposes their biggest weakness, which is that they're too emotional. You can't maintain that over a season, which is why they will inevitably run out of steam again while City and Liverpool keep their cool.
I agree.

Sometimes, I think you need to treat beating a rival as a 'normality' because it breeds a stronger mentality. You have set a standard.

Same as when you lose to a rival, if you go into meltdown it probably shows you are too weak. Whereas the biggest winners tend to shrug it off quickly.

Nothing wrong with a fist in the air or similar to Romero/Vicario's reaction but Arsenal do seem to take it a step too far in the sense they treat it as 'mission accomplished' yet it is just one battle in the war.

For example, when Guendouzi had his head out of the car, you'd have thought they'd won the league that day. They then went on a terrible run that burst that bubble.

I think Neville is right in that if you can't control your emotions it can easily go the other way

Sorry... I can't help myself...

Sounds to me like Arteta is serious.

🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ Asked whether Arsenal would be an appealing project for someone like Mbappe, Arteta said: "The club that we are, I don't think that's ever been an issue. Everyone wants to play for Arsenal. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

But so he should be.
If he said no, then the Arsenal fanbase would be up in arms.

We all know KM only truly wants a legacy team like Real Madrid.

They really are on fire. I have a horrible feeling they're going to beat Liverpool and stuttering City to the league. I also think if we're not a bit more pragmatic, we will get properly spanked when we next play them.

They are flying.

I actually think they are a huge danger in the champions league. Think they'll walk past Porto into the quarters.

Maybe the only hope is they go big for both and end up just missing out on both.

Unfortunately I think they're time is coming

Watching motd… anyone watch the game who can explain how that wasn’t a red? Looked like after seeing one replay.

not having injuries to key players in that starting eleven like other clubs is massive.
can see them taking the league. city is still wasting too many points
