I don't wanna sound like a bitter fan or anything but I am honestly astounded how many in the media and fans have just accepted that Arsenal are back and a guaranteed top 3 team. It truly baffles me.
Yes, they had a truly incredible season last year but before that, even at our worst we were still better them. So they've only had one truly good season in a while and people are just now taking it as written that they're top 3? I just can't see it that certainly.

In that same vein, the idea that so many have instantly written off Liverpool and after one poor season for them they're out of it as well now? Even Man Utd or Newcastle... they're all moving in the right direction but it's just a given that Arsenal will be top 3?

I will agree that I will not be surprised if they continue on from last season but I also wouldn't be surprised if a mix of injuries, European football, no mid-season world cup etc... means they don't have as successful a season this time out. If you ask me today do I put them in the top 4? Yes. Do I think it's a given? Not even close.

I’m more surprised by how many of the media think Chelsea are back. The squad looks a hot mess to me but I don’t see any pundit predicting them for a mid table finish, where we’re being predicted to be out of the European places again.

I like it. I think we'll make a lot of people eat humble pie this coming season. Loads of predictions saying we're basically 8th. I've even seen people saying Villa might get top 4, but us, no chance

Wow... 😳 I understand that they are happy... but...

"It's a statement," Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale told ITV. "It's a marker to know we can go and beat Manchester City in a big game when it matters.

"I'm not sure what it'll be like this season. But that mental block is gone. We're ready to push on now."

Arteta: "We showed again that we can compete against an incredible team," he told BBC Radio 5 live.

I know it’s pedantic and a little petty… but technically it was a draw…

Leicester won it in 21/22 - following season finished outside top 4 (8th)

Liverpool won it in 22/23 - following season finished outside top 4 (5th)

It’s a pre-season friendly, nobody cares other than banter merchants

It's all very Arsenal isn't it? Scrape over the line in what's essentially a charity friendly and decide this makes them world beaters.

It's a marathon, not a sprint, so let's see how they do when the pressure is actually on.

Hopefully Arteta will be being sent off loads this season with his appalling touch line behaviour! :playful: :playful:

They fluked it yesterday and I won't hear otherwise. Massive deflection on the goal in the 101st minute after more time was added on due to head injuries and then penalties.

They didn't beat City. And Arteta will be sent off a lot if he keeps that up and the refs stick to this new rule.

He literally got booked for dissent yesterday. They won't last long in the early weeks of the season at least.
It's whether the refs will apply this consistently and actually follow on to red card for persistent offences - I'm not convinced but we shall see.

Tell you what though, I’d love for us to be in that position though!

not bitter in the slightest but they are going about things in a much better way than us now.

Yes... they've backed Arteta big time the last couple of years... but it's not like it's been a massive success apart from the 2. Place last season... and we've really not had a plan in the same period... that should change now if/when Ange and his setup is allowed to work their magic and ideas. On and.... OFF !!!!!! ... the pitch.
