Yeah but social media FC fans just lap it up so they can banter their rivals as if they've pulled off a coup, they love this kind of shit - genius marketing for them.
Sadly, I suspect that half of them aren't there anymore after the job cuts...oh well at least they've got Willian for another 3 years

Vardy is a couple of months shy of 34, and is still as pacey and lethal as ever.

I don't see anything in the way Aubameyang plays to suggest he's going to suddenly become slow in the next 2-3 years.
Tbf I can understand the Aubameyang contract, they really didnt have a choice. However, Willian was pure panic.

The issue with Arteta and having learned with Guardiola is that he has seemingly picked up all the tinkering over thinking aspects of his time there and not enough of the play our strongest set-up and stick with it.

That’s not to say you don’t make minor adjustments here and there, but there is a reason Man City have failed in the CL and that is because Pep overthinks crunch matches after having battered every other team with his normal set-up. Arteta is in danger of doing the same (minus any kind of battering)

It's more to the fact that 9.9 players out of 10 lose their pace all of a sudden. Vardy is definitely the exception to the rule. Looking back over history the fast players that lost their pace are:

Henry, Bale, Owen, Giggs, Torres etc etc even Cristiano Ronaldo is not as fast as he once was & he is in prime condition.

Not many players maintain their level of speed at Vardys age & I would actually struggle to name one other player who has.

Also funny that they thought they had achieved a real coup by signing an inconsistent 32 year old at 220k a week until 2023, small club mentality.

True, although sports science has advanced a lot in recent years, and the likes of Torres, Owen and Bale all suffered a lot with injuries.

I can't see Aubameyang suddenly becoming slow any time soon personally.

RE: Willian £220k a week, this is the players they made 55 members of staff redundant for...they gave him a 3 year contract until he turns 35, absolutely mental.

Maybe it's two decades of watching Levy spend (or not) money but the mega-contracts for ageing players with little incentive to perform and no resale value genuinely shocks me. The £70M for Pepe. £30m for a teenage defender who's into the second year of a 5-year contract and has never played a game for them. I don't get the transfer policy or where the money's coming from given they're into their fourth season out of the CL.

Vardy is more an exception than a rule. Mid 30’s most people your sprint speed drops dramatically and his will too whether he does it at 35 or 36 is another matter but it will occur.

Well obviously he will lost his pace, the question is whether he loses it in the next 203 years, making his contract a poor investment. I don't see it.

Whether or not he remains motivated following that last big contract is another matter though.

edit: you know what I mean fuckers

A contract of that length is a bold statement.

At the time it seemed like they were trying to get some experience to help counter the young signings they'd made.

David Luiz - Saliba
Willian - Pepe/Saka

On paper it's not bad to have that balance. The problem is, those experienced players are not leaders, they're not players who are consistent and they can't be trusted to guide the youngsters and show them good habits.

The David Luiz and Willian signings are looking more and more like 'special friendship' signings Kia/Edu more than actual signings made with sense. Saliba was a player with good potential yet they panicked when we started sniffing around (if that's true) and Pepe they panicked too because Napoli were trying to get him.

It's funny because every time they make a signing it's celebration time and they get these ridiculous videos, yet a few months later they are laying into said player.

Partey was a good signing (although they've definitely over egged it again) but to get the best out of him you need a more creative midfielder alongside him.

The funny thing is they could have a very defensive structure with creativity if they recalled Ozil. They actually now have some pieces to give him that platform, yet have banished him. It's mental!

He was banished because his refusal to take a paycut like the rest of the squad which, in hindsight, actually looks smart because all that money likely just went back into Kroenke’s wallet given they laid off everyone they said they wouldnt.
