After letting Guendouzi and Torreira go, they were always going to sign a midfielder. Shame it’s him, but let’s just wait and see, might turn out to be a bag of shit like Pepe.

Gooner mate thinks they've signed the next Vieira. He's not that good but he improves them considerably.

Interestingly Balague suggested we came quite close to signing him when Poch was here.

Whilst he will improve them....it doesn't take away from the fact they have David Luiz as CB still.

You could put Kante, Partey and Casemiro in front of him...still going to have a clown behind them.

They used a 3rd party to help fund that. Can't remember the exact details

I think it was actually Lille that used the 3rd party. They sold the repayments to a third party for 90% up front.

I assume for this one Arsenal will have to finance it as the payment to Atletico will have to be full (plus I believe there are tax implications). I just hope they've left it too late to sort all of this out, I don't think these deals are as simple as they seem on the surface.

I reckon Arsenal will just try and skim some of the top and just go under the release clause (due to the reasons you said). Doesn't the money have to be paid to the player who then has to pay it to the Spanish FA? Something similar with Neymar, I remember.

Yeah that's it, brings up some tax and legal issues. Atleti seem pretty keen to keep him so I imagine they will force Arsenal to do it legit. You'd assume they had this all lined up however.

I was hoping they wouldn’t get him. Must of done all the work on the transfer already and it was just a case of them getting the money together. Let’s just hope they can’t complete all the deals they need to to get him today.

Those fuckers usually come up smelling of roses so I suspect it will all go through as planned.

He'll be a good signing but we'll still have a considerably better midfield than them.

Yet again it will be their defence that will let them down.

Admittedly I don't know much about Partey and how good a player he is so little naive here... but considering they basically have the exact same squad that finished 8th in the league and have only added Willian and now seemingly Partey, are they that significantly better? Does he change them that much that they're a threat?
Especially since they've got rid of their good 2nd choice keeper (so will be low on depth in cups), plus are getting rid of Kolasinac, Guendouzi and Torreira?
