I really fucking hope they alienate him (no pun intended) and use him as the reason why they can't sign big name players this year. Another 13m/14m pissed away in wages, and no transfer fee to boot.

If he is toxic they must want him away.

Sticking like shit to a blanket ...

Him and Bale. Earning huge wages and are being frozen out. Other clubs wont touch or can't afford them, so they would rather just stay put until their contract is up than push for a new club.

Both ruined by Real Madrid.

Stay away from any player that other clubs are willing to let go on a free transfer with the player excepting higher than normal wages because no fee involved . You would have thought that the Winston Bogarde situation would have been a red flag for clubs .
My heart bleeds for Real Madrid and Arsenal also Man Unt have had to pay a large part of the Sanches wages to get rid isn't it a pity .
Or could I replace those thoughts with Ha Ha HA fucking Ha.

Ancelotti decided that he could leave. Him and Ronaldo worked great togheter. I’m almost a 100% sure that his personality was the main reason that they let him go. I think I remember Ronaldo was fuming when interviewed about his departure; «could not believe Real decided to sell him»

Pretty sure he'd just been Real's player of the season. He was one of the best players in the world but they wanted a shiny new toy (James?).

yup - he had almost 30 assists in La Liga (highest that year) when he left. Ronaldo and other players very unhappy but Ancelotti and Perez wanted him out and Wenger wanted him to join.

Arteta has mucked this up rather badly - one thing for Zidane to discard Bale (Z has serious credit at Real) but entirely different for a first time manager to freeze out your highest paid player. Not like they have a load of creative players + just gave a mega contract to Willian and a mega contract to Abu....a lot of money to players over 30. Between them probably around 800K per week!

I know it's ESPN but fuck me, that's hilarious. Everyone and their dog knows they paid at least twice what they should've.
They quite simply thought they were leaping ahead of everyone for his signature and then being clever with the finances. They genuinely thought they were getting the next big superstar.

Anyone who'd seen Pepe could tell you he was incredibly raw for a 24 year old.

Instead they've ended up commiting to a deal that eats into their funds every summer.

Brilliant

Signing Willian to a 3 year deal is insane giving the amount of players over 30 they already have on large contracts.

The Retirement Home for Chelsea Old Boys.

Weird how they're able to pay wages that Chelsea couldn't compete with though, especially when Arsenal already have Luiz, Aubamayang and Ozil in their 30s and on bumper contracts.

Ah well. ??‍♂️

I feel like it's a good addition when you just think about the player and what he may bring but £220,000 a week on a 3 year deal for a 32 year old is pretty crazy. Certainly not something I would push for us to do even if I wouldn't be against having the player himself.

I don't think that is his basic wage. It is how much he would earn with his joining fee on top.
