How can 90 minutes of football flip everything on it's head in quite such alarming fashion amongst our fans?

Because now we finally have a score to match our performance.

What a lot of our fans were missing, but now starting to realise is that, except for 30-40 mins against Chelski we have been shit in the Premier League all season. It is just the results because we were, on paper, winning, people were deluding themselves into think were we going to win the title. I actually read, from more than one person, that 1-0 away to Crystal Palace is a good result. even if it was from penalty for a handball that isn't always given. This season seems to rolling over from last season wher again, our points score flattered our performances immensly.

I know optimism isn't usually an emotion our fans experience but we need to keep some perspective.

Sorry OP, but tired or not, no one loses at home to the spammers 3 - 0.

This is absolutely spot on if your a so called big club or designs on top four then simply you don't lose at home to west ham 3-0 period.
I think some on here are underestimating just how bad yesterdays defeat was it was utter toilet from management downwards with the usual Tottenham implode shitty defending and still no idea of how to break down a packed defence.
The spammers deserve credit for turning up and wanting it much more than we did but they are a shit team yet beat us far too easy we all need to remember this.

I love Dembele as a player, but is our squad so thin that AvB has to play him every game?

Do we know the whole story on Sandro, maybe he is having niggles.

Maybe some better communication from the club on such matters would help us supporters understand some decisions better.

If 0-3 at home to west ham doesn't merit a few knee jerks then I am not sure what does - this wasn't a last minute winner after spending 90 mins defending for their lives type of win, it was pretty comfortable and that is hugely disturbing

Swansea at home, Norwich at home and Cardiff away. Particularly the latter two. Decided to reply instead of dislike your post. I wasn't even impressed with the Chelsea game. It was a disappointment for me.

Yep. Kneejerking is the right of every football fan.

We have delusions of grandeur so losing 3-0 at home to a bottom 3 club, and being outwitted tactically by fat sam warrants some sort of soul searching for a few days.

We'll get over it, and hopefully for the better.

There was booing, not the worst by a long shot, but still ridiculous to me. You boo when you're club is going down the toilet.

Re the dull performances - I think it's a symptom of where we are now. Teams come to WHL and sit very deep, they restrict space and hence the game is condensed into the oppositions defensive third. For us it's about patience, and I don't think the fans are quite getting that yet, we are faced with 11 men walls and hence us circulating the ball from side to side - our best games in recent years have often been away from home when the hosts sometimes feel obliged to attack, or at home when a side comes and gives it a go and doesn't sit in their bunker. We play every home game now with the opposition not giving us a run up, and we've really struggled to replace Modric who was perfect at getting the ball fizzing around at speed.

Regarding booing your right it's bollocks to do it but certainly the club is not going down the toilet but yesterday's performance certainly was totally inept and not of a potential top four club none of the other big clubs would have lost like that to a shit team like them.
As for teams sitting deep this has been happening since the days of arry and yet we still have no answer to it and most of these side's are like west ham so I would say it's pretty wank from both managers that they have no alternative plan.
Yesterday for me highlighted avbs lack of tactical nous as in the chelsea game against Norwich Maureen made changes that helped them win when they were under pressure but against chelsea and the hammers avb was unable to do so which makes me think that andre thinks he is the nuts but in fact he is quite average.

I think we have right to have a little moan after a defeat like that, after all it's none too cheap to follow Spurs or any other in the Premier League. If the players had showed as much desire as some of the posters on here, we may not have lost so conceiving, or even at all!

That being said, at Villa I'll be right behind every one of the players and fans, every man Jack of them, even Defoe!

There is so much wrong with this it's unbelievable. For a start Norwich and Cardiff were great performances and victories.

No team plays amazingly every game especially when you are trying integrate a whole raft of new signings that are not only adapting to the team but also the league and country.

Only 2 of the starting 11 were newbies

People do know what kneejerking is right?

When watching the game, any game, Defoe misses a sitter or Lennon fucks up a crossing opportunity and almost involuntarily, you jump up and shout 'You **** Defoe/Lennon/' or something similar in anger. That's a kneejerk reaction.

Posting a load of bile and drivel several hours (and in a few cases 24hrs) after the event is not kneejerking. Unless your an emotionally stunted chimpanzee.

*That'll make the shit hit the fan, or the knee hit the chin if you prefer :D

You have 5 minutes to post a kneejerk reaction to this post, after which i'll hand around the bananas ;)

I'm not panicking just yet, but it is a little discouraging that we huff and puff every game but we haven't won by a 3 goal margin since Inter in the Europa league, and we've barely ever won by 3 goals in the PL. I am starting to question whether the tactics we are employing will ever lead to a deadly attack. It feels like we don't create enough space and so we try so hard to break teams down in very little space to play in, but then allow our opponents to play into acres of space on the counterattack.

I'm yet to see one overreaction to what we witnessed yesterday.

In isolation, that game was a disaster...and it was a disaster that could have been avoided. Everyone could see it but AVB and that's what's made people very frustrated and upset.

We have very good resources now but they were poorly managed yesterday.

A game at home to west ham to potentially go top, with all our shiny new talent and hopes and aims to go for 4th and above...and we produce that??

People were upset and voiced it; it's totally understandable.

Everyone will calm down, but we have to stop with this 'knee-jerk' accusation rubbish every time someone makes any sort criticism of our team/performance.

A billion times this.

When we were winning games a few posters were happy to point out that Dembele isn't moving the ball forward enough, our playing style isn't adaptable enough or exciting enough and a few other questions about how the team can improve.

They were told to enjoy the moment and stop being negative.

Then when we get hammered and they say the same thing they are accused of knee-jerking when they have been saying the same thing all along.

I've been on this board a while. I've seen some threads created asking for the manager to be sacked after one game, new players being completely destroyed and asking for wholesale changes.

That hasn't happened this time so I don't understand this thread.

There are negative posts of course, but what do people expect after losing 3-0 at home to a West Ham side that are terrible even by their standards?

This board really needs to ban the phrase "knee-jerk", it's almost never used correctly and just tries to kill debate.

And on another note, why on earth does anyone read Twitter?

It's like reading the opinion page in The Sun to gauge the nation's political opinions.

I've been a member of Spurs Community for a long time and needless to say Spurs Chat has always been a place where you can find some solid, well thought out analysis of any Spurs game but as we all know, it's well known for it's knee jerk reactions to losses. However, what I'm seeing after this West Ham defeat is nothing short of utter madness.

My biggest worry after this loss was that it came right before a national team break, and now this place will be a depressing hell hole for two weeks, rather than just one.

You know what - i've been thinking long and hard about this since the Wham game. I've watched the game again and i've looked at the tactics. I've run through formations, strategies, the kinds of socks the players wore. I've looked a the Lamela problem, the Chadli problem, the Holtby issue, the AVB puzzle and the Dembele conundrum. I think I found the answer.

I think the team really needs to grow a bigger pair of
