Wow, impressive. And I was just gutted that we'd got him instead of Samba. Nice to get some perspective on him, but will he actually be fit enough to play much?

I can't understand why anyone would be gutted by his signing. How many games did Bassong play because that is his role, sit on a bench and play only when three of King, Gallas, Dawson and Kaboul are unfit. I'd have thought he was ideal for that role, solid, dependable, low wage and not expecting to play every week.

Ooh I can't match that... only been a supporter since 1961 ...51 years and watched 600 games...stood in Park Lane with 500 yids though as Arsenal clebrated in 71':-|

Surprised an old codger like you knows how to use the net, fair play though for your 51 years, when and if I reach your age I will be the same.

Hi Barmy.

I'm now living in the US, having been born in Australia, but I grew up in Palmers Green and used to walk to Spurs games.

It's the eternal dilemma of a football fan of a club at this level. We hate other clubs' fans with no proper connection to the club, because they are (almost invariably) glory-hunters. Yet we actually love the equivalents for our side. I couldn't care less about the connections of Spurs fans I meet out here, because I just want us to be the best known and loved club in the world. It's not going to happen, but it's what I want.

A couple of years back I met a guy with a Spurs top (or maybe I had one on and he approached me) in a Cleveland supermarket. He was Croatian, and we had an extended debate about how wonderful Modric is. All I wanted was to show him how great it is to be a Spurs fan - maybe he'll follow Modric to wherever when he leaves, maybe he'll still follow Spurs because he had a great conversation with a charismatic, good-looking guy in a supermarket. Who knows. The point is that it is an opportunity to spread the word. I think we have a duty to be evangelical about our team, because that might just build and build. What else can we do from here?

Don't worry about what anyone thinks of you - they may think you're a fair weather fan, but you know better. I know it's frustrating that you took the pain for so long while they just came strolling in, but keep your eyes on the prize. The more people who love us, the more money we get, the better we become.
