I remember the first 'Spurs' fan I bumped into in Louisiana - he told me he didn't mind Arsenal (going as far as to say he would rather lose to Arsenal than any of Chelsea/Man Utd/Liverpool) and hoped that West Ham would come back up. You have to bite your tongue, walk away and try and avoid them in future otherwise you'll go crazy, start shouting and flinging your own poo at them.
I'm pretty much the same...:shhh:...far more hatred for Man Utd and Liverpool as I'm surrounded by their fans (of the armchair variety) whereas I know very few Arsenal fans so haven't had to endure their mocking over the years.
I'd quite like West Ham to come back up as we usually do very well against them, its funny when we beat them and to be fair they do create a good atmosphere at the Lane.
Chelsea however I hate because of their fans that actually go to games. Horrible individuals!

I do not see how anyone can have a second team in the same league or even the same country unless its like a local confrence side etc
I can understand looking for a result of your fathers team etc but not actually saying my second team it is a bit school boy.

Your knowledge of North / East London football culture is a bit limited then....Leyton Orient were always the second team of Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham supporters for years........

There is an obvious solution to your problem. Move to another country.

I know exactly how you feel, unfortunately it's only going to get worse. Conversations with bandwagon Spurs fans is a horrible experience, the worst bit is when it dawns on you the person knows sod all about the club but it's too late to escape the conversation. I actually feel sorry for all the genuine Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool fans who have to put up with it on a regular basis.

This is so true hahaha!

Here in the small city of Kuching in Malaysia, all my friends know Im a hardcore Spurs fan...because there are hardly any in Kuching. Been putting the Spurs logo on my cars ever since I bought my first car way back in 1996. Friends instantly recognise its my car from the logo and the trademark "118" (nothing related to Spurs) on my registration plate.

Thing that bugs me nowadays is that some youngster might be driving behind me and sees the Spurs sticker at the back of my car, and then goes "bah, a newbie in the English league...supports Spurs just coz they're doing well".....really gets to me you know......

Referring to your original question, I don't think you're a snob at all.

I remember the sudden surge of new Manure fans from all the over the world, some who never saw them play but still wanted to say they supported them and bought shirts, scarves, etc., after the Munich air disaster back in February 1958. Some of those new fans had never even been all that interested in football before that happened.

What I will say is that if the new NZ Spurs followers start to watch our games on TV or online, they will see a team worth watching and hopefully appreciate some very good football (most games). It might also give them something to think about other than sheep.

You should perhaps consider starting a NZ Spurs supporters club out there if there isn't one already which might attract some ex-pats who are genuine, long-term supporters. (You could be the self-appointed President ).
