He is on loan. He could be back in the summer and he is still a good player. His ability to get forward from fullback was never properly utilised and it definitely would have been a useful option to add some dynamism to the right side with lennon out.

I think the moment you start picking out players for individual errors you are asking for trouble. The list of players would be endless.

Wow! I don't understand why you have even started this thread. I continue to be amazed at the amount of bile posted on this site.

Don't quite understand what you mean about not "utilising" him....are you suggesting that the whole team should be built around Alan Hutton so that we can see him performing to his full potential? As far as i'm concerend, he's had a fair number of starts and he's never really been convincing. Before he signed, I repeatedly heard about his beckhamesque crossing ability. Sadly, I can't recall a single decent cross/goal scoring chance setup by him.

For me Hutton is a very average player, a willing runner (ala forest gump) but lacking vision, awareness and technical knowhow.

I've never really rated Hutton. Corluka is the better player by a distance.

It may not be important to some people but I really hate his little thin side burns, fucks me off big time.

I am not a big fan of Hutton especially as a defender but if a team wants to get the very best from David Bentley then you have to provide him with an overlapping fullback.
Look at Modric and Bale on our left - as Modric comes inside Bale powers past him on the outside giving more problems to our opponents defence to handle.
In an attacking sense Bentley and Hutton could do the same on the right - Corluka just doesn't offer this option for me although he is definitely the better defender.

I don't like Hutton but the only 'shit' here is the post with which the thread started. Malicious, vindictive, unnecessary and about a player not even at the club right now. Some people need to grow up.

I see what you're saying but for me is a question of balance and I don't think we could or should do that on both sides. Its like Lennon on the right, he is a winger and relies mostly on his speed where as Modric is a LM and relies mostly on his technique. I think it works with Bale overlaping Modric on the left but you would be hard pushed to find a RB that could overlap Lennon LOL

Good post - perhaps Walker/Naughton will ultimately offer the pace option when Bentley is playing as we are certainly short in this area with a Bentley/Charlie combination. There is no doubt that Charlie is by far the best defensive player but to label Hutton as "shit" is clearly both childish and incorrect. Pav, Bale, Bentley etc. have all suffered the same accusation but I notice that none of the posters ever come back to eat their words. Hutton is yet another player who has had problems on and off the pitch and has had far too few games upon which to make a fair judgement. From what I have seen of him he is quite good going forward but less so defensively. But then BAE is far better defensively than Bale but not as impressive going forward. Horses for courses surely.

I like Hutton, good at getting forward and will put him self about.

Attacking fullbacks will always get caught out of position though, Bale will during a match as well. Hope Naughton (maybe Walker, not seen enough of him) can give an attacking option from RB if needed

i really liked hutton when we first signed him - he looked awesome at right back with his bombing runs. sadly he played in a demoralised spurs side and then got injured

he hasn't ever quite looked the part since his return and i see why corluka has been above him in the pecking order at RB

but he does have something to offer that's different to corluka - esp against the lower league teams where we have struggled to open them up

we've always been traditionally weak down the left, since ginola's departure but of late, with lennon out and bale performing well on the left, that has been our most productive outlet

perhaps having hutton around now with bentley ahead of him may have helped us open up weaker teams? corluka hasn't been his awesome self recently either...

Erm, Lennon has been playing on the right for the past two seasons...

I think Hutton is a quality player and when he first signed for spurs was one of our best players. But then played half injured and everyone on her got on his back. He has got loads of potential where as I can't really see corluka going anywhere but done. Remember it was only a two months ago that people were saying the same things about bale.

was it as bad as Corluka's lapse in concentration that cost us all three points at Birmingham ?
