spurs close on £8m Hutton switch

Rangers and Tottenham are in talks over the transfer of Alan Hutton to the English Premier League club.
BBC Scotland understands that a fee of about £8m could secure the sale of the Scottish international right-back.
Newcastle have also been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old, who signed a five-year deal in July and has been in superb form this season.
Hutton received praise from Sir Alex Ferguson following his performances in Scotland's Euro 2008 campaign.
Speaking last month, Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist urged Hutton to remain at Ibrox.
"I'd like him to stay here for a long time and win things with Rangers," McCoist said.
"I have no doubt Alan is destined for great things but I believe those great things can be with Rangers."

On the BBC site now.

Obviously he can't play in our UEFA Cup games so it may not be certain that he's PC's replacement just yet.

He could play in the Uefa Cup I think. If the rules are the same as for the Champions League anyway where apparently you can register 3 extra players at this stage as long as 2 of them havn't played in another european competition. 1 of them can though.

Sky Sports News reporting it is £6million plus a player.

Why couldn't we play Rocha last season, then?

That is stonking combined price for a relatively untried full back. We paid Wigan over the odds for the best pound for pound right back of his time and that was about £6mill.

I just hope Ramos knows what he's doing - or is it another "swoop" by Comolli?

Condsidering Hutton is supposedly a more attacking fullback than Chimbonda that would seem to suit the style of fullback Ramos had at Sevilla.

Well I would say he probably has more experience than Chimbonda did when we signed him, remembering that Chimbo had only just completely his first season in top flight football, yet Hutton has international caps against the very best in France and Italy and has played in the CL which Chimbo hasn't.

Truw, but if the other player going is Ghaly that brings it down to around £3m doesn't it?

why are we spending 6-8 million ona right back.Hes better going forward that chimbS but chimb better defensively!
I have seen Hutton play loads of games, hes a good player but i would have rather signed Celluar from Rangers,we need centre backs. He can also play in the uefa cup.

a scottish player is more likely to adapt to english football. plus he has international and champions league xperience. and remember that chimbo is almost 30. we will need a replacement.....someone to put pressure on him.

Think this would suggest that Chimbonda is going to move into the middle...

I think he is more solid than Chimbonda, we wont see him try and play his way out of trouble when eh is on the edge of his six yard box, but the flip side of that is that sometimes he migth clear his lines whereas Chimbonda could start a counter attack. Plus PC is lethal from set pieces.

I do wonder why we are buying him when we have Chimbonda, Staltieri, Ifil and a couple of players that can fill in, but maybe Ramos wants to get rid of a few of them.

16 mill on Bent, 8 on Hutton, still no fecking left footed winger!

Time will tell but isn't it £6mill plus player? In that case £9mill is deffo over the odds.
