Who are you thinking @Ghost Hardware ?

For my LW list I’ve got Williams and Savio, then Osman as a very raw option.

RW I’ve got Neto, Olise and Bakayoko plus Bardghji as a younger option.
It’s a tricky one because I’m trying to keep my own personal preference out of it. My feeling is we will be looking at all the players you mention but realistically I’m not sure we will go for any of them

I think if we get a WF he will probably be a LW more than a RW currently. Or they will be one that can play on ether wing. Reason being is that we just spent big on Johnson and won’t want to limit his minutes or right him off so realistically I don’t see the club investing again there so soon. Whilst Kulu has been filling in at 10 regardless what I think I reckon he will predominantly stay out wide for now also.

So with that in mind players like Williams, Neto, Chiesa, Savio can all play ether wing comfortably but for different reasons I think all will be beyond our reach. Neto will be too expensive and ? around injuries, Chiesa ? around injuries, Savio will go to City on the low most likely and Nico will be too expensive as they will demand his release fee being met.

Maybe at RW If we could get a cheap deal for Bardghji then possibly we would add him as he would be HG if we bought him now or in summer but he is still very raw. Beyond that I just don’t see us spending on Bakayoko or Olise for the reasons I mentioned earlier.

My opinion is, unless an opportunity we can’t refuse turns up in the next few days, we will wait until summer and asses the squad we have. I think we really liked Nusa and saw him as a unique talent who we could potentially get for a reasonable fee without competition this window. That obviously went sideways so now we will see how Solomon and especially Werner develop and if they do will purchase Werner if he impresses.

I do think there’s a chance we spend the fee we set aside for Nusa on another position this window like CM but I’m not expecting us to go for another WF this window.

But as for one player we might follow closely for the second part of the season then Yildiz is that one. He has a very very similar profile to Nusa, despite the more limited game time might even have the greater potential imo, is the same age as Nusa and we know Juve are seriously strapped. It might be someone lower profile like Osman, if he doesn’t go to WH, ends up being more straight forward and realistic but for me Yildiz is a very interesting possibility given our parameters.

The problem is Sons time is coming to an end. I reckon we may get 1 more season out of him as a starter. He’s our only top class attacker.

I think we’ve already seen while he’s been away how poor we are in attack without him. On top of that we haven’t really replaced Kane (I don’t mean a direct replacement, I mean a quality attacker of any type).

If we don’t get quality attackers of the right type in very soon we’re going to be in big trouble in attack because without Sons quality we are bang average up there especially compared to the rest of our team.

I don’t see any of our current attackers stepping up massively either. Johnson MAY develop in to a good player but he’s still quite limited.
I’d be interested to know why you think Son may only have one more season as a starter. Have you seen something in his play that indicates that or is it primarily based on the fact that he’ll likely lose his pace as he’s getting older? (Genuine question btw, as you seem to watch a lot more football than I do and have good knowledge).

This was the only name for this profile I heard (before the transfer window opened)

The deal just got too rich for us but at least the club had clear boundaries on it and backed away. Nusa might well be a future star but if we can get Werner going it might just be that a permanent deal for him in the Summer is better business. We've also seen next to nothing of Solomon who seems to have a decent skillset. Santiago is also doing well further back in the queue. Brentford paid a fair chunk for Damsgaard but I've heard virtually nothing about him since. Plenty more fish in the sea.

Just a thought, but we might be relaxed about attracting other comparable high profile youngsters, whereas Brentford might see this as an opportunity that doesn’t come around too often for a club of their size. So they might be more willing to gamble on it than we are.

I still can't see them smashing their transfer record on a gamble, even if it is a rare opportunity to have a seat at the roulette table.

Why not? I mean it is a gamble, what else could it be? No one knows for sure right now how he will develop. Maybe Brentford consider him a sure thing but if he was such a sure thing bigger clubs than Brentford would probably be in for him.

With Lange being there would make sense. I know Bardghji joined after he left but I’m sure he still has connections there. He is still raw tho and as a RW I’m not sure he will be considered a priority. But would be surprised if he isn’t a player of continued interest.

He is going to be 32 in July and most players start to lose their explosiveness and importantly endurance around this kind of age. I think there are already some signs that a small bit of pace has gone (he’s still pretty quick though especially without the ball).

He’s also been playing regularly since he was 18 and generally the younger you breakthrough the earlier you burn out especially if pace was part of your game.

If we expect him to keep playing out wide we’re in for a rude awakening imo. Way too much intensity and distance involved playing out there. We could potentially increase his longevity moving him to striker but I do worry he’s probably got 2 seasons left max, possibly 1 more at his best.

That is why I found the Nusa transfer so exciting. It gave us the chance to slowly ease him in and ease Son out (or move Son to striker).

Everyone seems to be ignoring the sell-on clause. I can't think of any deals we've done with that in so once that was thrown into the mix by Brentford/Brugge then we'd have had no interest in matching.
Brentford have really backed their number crunchers on this one, it could be seen as them leveraging their Premier League whilst they still have it.
I remember how hyped everyone was about Patson Daka. At £15-20m there's options, at £30m + sell on you need more certainty.

If it's not him we definitely need someone of this type. Think that's probably obvious after watching us this season.

Any thoughts on the fact we've lost out to Brentford though?

If we had lost out to a club that can afford to stockpile promising youth then it would make sense to me that it was too much of a gamble for us. But this transfer must be a far higher risk to Brentford than to us and they are a well run club so can't help but think there really is something special about this kid. Especially when they are willing to wait until summer when I'm sure they could use bodies through the door now.

Nope, not really. If this was a key target for a position we desperately needed I'd be concerned, but it isn't. This is just a kid with potential. Lets be honest here Brentford haven't beaten us to him, we've moved out of the way. Financially we could blow them out of the water, but we've rightly so chosen not to due to the price hike.

To add my biggest concern is we haven’t replaced Harry Kane and it won’t be long before we have to replace son . That’s 2 world class players. You work around one but not 2 without a massive drop off for a season or 2. You can have a strategy but it comes down to money 💰.
8th richest club in the world they say. Thanks for all the info WLB.

Indeed but remember the 5th, 9th and 10th richest club went on crazy spending spree's and overpaid on loads of players to a point where they can't sign anyone unless the sell. Massively overpaying leads to FFP issues, which in turn leads to not signing anyone in future windows. For a key target in a position we are short I get your point. For a gamble on a position we are fairly well stacked with numbers? Definitely not.

Isn’t Yildiz more of an AM @Ghost Hardware ? Can he hold width, play wide on the left and dribble both ways etc?
He’s very versatile but he’s best as a LW. He picks up very similar positions to Nusa. In general they have an incredibly similar profile. Juve don’t really play wingers which is why if you look at TM it will show him as a SS or AM currently but if you watch him he is natural at LW and stays wide a lot and has the skill set to match. He is an electric aggressive dribbler that can go both ways. The bellow short vid is just from this season and you can see how he would fit very well into the system.
