It doesn't make sense. Either you want the player or not.

If he's not high priority, identify the player that is and get him.

Our transfer strategy is fucking awful.
It's like 'we'll have him if he's cheap enough'.

That is just not right. Things must change.

Surely it’s just they feel there’s a maximum price for the player they want and if the sellingclub wants a lot more than that then they’ll walk away

I disagree, you have to set limits on players even the ones you rate highly and want. Would you pay a 70m for him?
I don't disagree with that at all.

But that's not my point. My point is that it appears from that info that 'if its a good price we'll go for it'.

And for me that is totally the wrong approach.

surely it links more to his contract situation? How much we feel we should play for a player with 6 months left vs how much they want people to pay for him with how important he is for a promotion charge

With regards not going for Bowen or letting other clubs chase him because we have a right winger in Clarke who is a young kid where Bowen is the best player in the Championship and largely plays through the middle - that doesn't make any sense though why thinking Spurs transfer policy should make any sense probably says more about me

If we are desperate for a winger then the boy at Brentford Benharima would be ideal

Not really - it's quite logical. Using some contextual price examples that I've pulled from my derriere....

"Should we sign this promising young player who isn't PL ready for the price we paid for Dele?"
"Sure - it's worth the risk at that price!"

or

"Should we sign this promising young player who isn't PL ready for the price Dortmund paid for Haaland?"
"That doesn't sound like a good way to spend our resources"

(Cleared with the guys) Bowen now unlikely to happen this month. Hull demanding fair amount more than we are willing to pay and not looking like they’ll lower asking price. Spurs never wanted to pay big money for the player. A deal that would only be done if they could get a good price as we have another promising young RW in Clarke and have other more important positions to sign. Other clubs are more desperate than us for him so also willing to pay higher.
Thanks for sharing.

I cling to the point about us having more important potions to sort out

So this is where Daniel's going wrong
Stop trying to be a wizard and start buying decent footballers who can give 2 fucks about the club /career etc.
I presume it's a hair regrowth potion or a taller one he is going for or maybe it's the lead in to gold one either way he needs to get his priorities right. ;)

Eze and Bowen should not be the priorities this window. I think we can get by with Son up top until Kane returns, we have done it before and I would like to see Parrott gradually introduced 20/30mins here and there culminating in a full game if the situation dictates. We desperately need a RB CB and DM, players with pace and strength who play with intensity, we are woefully weak in these areas. The whole team seem to be like they are playing in syrup and we need a new dynamism introduced.

I certainly can’t argue with that last bit. It’s like the Night of the Living Dead out there.

It maybe the other way round, more that he is good enough but for less than the money they are asking we can get someone even better. Or paying that much may impinge on our budget for our higher priority.

This only makes sense if we're spending big elsewhere - if your budget is £150m, and you need 5 or 6 players, it does get eaten up quickly and especially if one or two of those purchases are £50m each. If Bowen is £25m and we've offered £15m, if that was the case, it makes sense to wait or pass.

Bowen is a player we have too many of. Again statistically decent goal output like Dele, Moura but lacks the technique and creativity to play in the prem. Would be another snodgrass.

We have made another enquiry about Max Aarons this window. However so have Utd, City and Leicester. Let’s see what happens. Source reckons if Spurs sign him he will go back on loan until the summer.

(Not sure how that helps us now)

Thanks for the info.

I think this would be a good move for us in the long run; I’d rather go with a home grown talent with Prem experience than panic buy an alternative this window if he’s our top target
