Fulham also made five changes, so I'm guessing if they'd lost the penalty shootout they'd also have pissed away the chance of a trophy?

It's rotation - you will see it from every single PL team - and it's penalties. It happens. Did we rotate too many? Maybe. How else is he going to see what works?

Well, yes they would have? But also our aspirations should be a little higher than Fulham's.

The best thing that can come from this is that it solidifies who cannot be trusted and Ange gets to mould things properly as a result.

For the sake of fuck!!!

I thought we were supposed to be giving Ange time?
This was the chance for him to learn about his squad in a proper game situation and while yes, I too thought we made too many changes, I can also see why he may have made the decisions that he did.

He'll have learnt a lot from tonight but it appears as though some of our fans have learnt nothing.
Give the man some time, we're not an overnight fix.

Nobody here wants him out for this result (I hope) but it's disappointing to see him make these selections and ultimately lose the game when we have our lightest fixture schedule in years and no trophy in 15.

Similarly nobody said we were an easy fix, but we are 100% able to beat Fulham in round 2 of the LC and it almost feels like we chose not to, despite, again, no trophy in 15 years and no Europe this season.

That was pretty poor stuff tonight.
Too many changes and that's on Ange.
Sanchez, Emerson, Davies, Hojbjerg, Skipp gave us nothing.
Richarlison got a goal, Perisic supplied the assist but neither did much else.
Lo Celso and Soloman didn't get into the game
and the players that came on looked a cut above.
Awful game, kit and team selection.

I'm not sure it's we rely on them too much but more too many changes. U
So far Ange subs have had impact because he change 3 or 4 players and they slot in. However, 9 changes meant there was no cohesion in the team. We only needed to make 5 changes max. Those players have rarely played together in the new system compared to the subs bench
I think if we stuck to the same team as the weekend but only dropped Romero, Bissouma and Maddison we still struggle though. Romero is so much better with the ball than Sanchez. Bissouma so much better at resisting the press than Hojbjerg. Maddison so much better carrying the ball than Lo Celso. I think the gaps between some of the others are not so big as these particular ones. It's the spine that is so key to how the team function more so than the full backs and wide attackers.

Really frustrating performance and result, first half as as bad as any of the litany of whimpering cup exit of recent times

Fair play to Sanchez for having the minerals to take one, more disappointed in Scarlett, Højberg and Davies for not

I guess we will have to settle for the double instead of the treble this year

Can’t lie, that has properly fucked me off.

People brush it off but a club who has gone 15 years without winning a trophy really need to start getting serious.

Anges decision making for this fixture will for me be up there with Poch playing Son at LB and making Kaboul captain lol.

The man’s getting to know the team and the players. It sucks but it’ll be an important lesson learned for him.

Just as an aside Alfie Devine's Port Vale went through on penalties, he played full 90 minutes so at least one of ours won a penalty shoot out.

I can understand most of the rotations even though we're not in Europe - players deserve the chance to show that they are worthy of a place in Ange's new system and they need game time to convince them to stay at the club and avoid getting demoralised. However - one rotation I absolutely don't understand was taking out Vicario. He is new to English football and needs game time, you shouldn't be rotating your goalkeeper, and whilst Forster made some good saves in the game he was atrocious in the shootot - I can't help but think if we'd had Vicario in goal for that we'd have gone through.

Hopefully also gives a bit of a warning sign to both Ange and Levy in the final days of the window. We've got an exciting young first XI. But our backup is the same old shit as before. More quality is needed.

9 changes was massive overkill. It doesn’t help those coming in either. Change 4-5 if you want a look at players but keep the core unit moving. We were away to Premier League opposition this wasn’t an opportunity to learn it was an opportunity to advance in a cup competition to try and win some silverware that we desperately need.

Many bad players in the game. But worst player of the game for me was Solomon.

My God, how bad he was on the right side. For a right footed player, bloke does not have the ability/capability/intent to take the ball across the body and play outside.

Sanchez to Solomon, cut in, lose the ball
Sanchez to Solomon, cut in , pass back to Sanchez
Sanchez to Solomon, cut in , pass back to Emerson
Sanchez to Solomon, cut in, lose the ball

Rinse repeat that again & again till he got switched to left side when Son came on. For those few minutes , he could actually play well from left side.

I hope Ange never again plays him on right side

This is all on Ange. Forster is what he is and Sanchez at least had the balls to take a pen.

Ange threw the game by rotating the entire team like we're still in pre season. With no Europe it's unacceptable.

If anything he should have fielded an unchanged side as this team should keep building chemistry.
Easy to say in hindsight I suppose. But at the very least i'd have kept the CB pairing and put Vicario in goal (who needs to adapt to the league as quickly as possible) even though during the 90 mins Forster was decent. I get why Lo Celso started, but perhaps another risk was swapping out both of the other CMs.

So basically, whichever side lost would've pissed it away. Which seems less like pissing away to me and more just how competitions work.

Really annoyed. A lot of my optimism has diminished tonight . Can’t see us getting top 4 and can’t see us winning fa cup. Wanted us to do well in this cup. So frustrated.
