For the longest time watching Spurs I'd see us play well but lose. We now have the opposite - better players? Better manager? Luck?

Dunno but going to enjoy it while I can.

Yeah was having disagreements with people about this a little bit recently, actually with United and Liv fans as they were talking up Arsenal performance at weekend and to their credit they did play well until Arteta fucked up with the subs (I wanted that to work for him so he kept doing but alas). I just think when you're performing well and still losing then what else do you have left really, sure you can try and push the limits further but if you have no gears left then you're relying on the opponent shower less. Same happened with the game vs Chelsea, people were talking about Chelsea performance but we were the ones who were better off that weekend as we got the same amount of points with a performance which suggested we certainly have some gears to ramp up to as the season goes on.

I think we will need to show something different vs City though admittedly but right now I'm happy that we as a unit and some individuals are underperforming but we're still getting the results because I think we're currently still in a phase where Conte is almost combining the some of the tactical and fitness work you'd anticipate in pre-season into the early parts of this season to try and elevate us further and eventually the training demands will dissipate.

I also find it funny how many times people feel we're looking lethargic in the first half of games only to see us go through the gears in the 2nd half, how many times does it have to happen before people realise it's by design. We seem to limit the overload and intensity first half and allow teams to come onto us to try and catch them a bit heavier legged 2nd half.

Could be one of two things; a stroke of genius. Confuse the opposition into thinking we will take the draw. Or, complete and utter fluke that it worked out.

My heart says the former, brain the latter.

Sincerely one of the strangest sub decisions I’ve ever seen.
Complete and utter fluke that worked out ???? Far enough if we had fucking Arteta in charge but do you think Antonio Conte flukes many things?

It's not even that strange. We were a man up and likely to win the game even at 0-0. What would have been completely fucking mental was what Arteta did against Utd and go gung ho and leave themselves open on the break, imagine if Conte did that? Went balls to the wall at 0-0 and we lose because the counter the fuck out of us, you'd all be calling for his head for a crazy decision..

He brought Tanganga and Davies on to A) Keep Romero and Lenglet as fresh as possible for City and B) To freshen up the wide centre backs and bring more energy going forward. The wide centre backs when going forward overlap alot and bring alot to us creating space going forward, Davies literally overlapped Perisic to create him space to put the cross in for Richarlisons first goal.

I swear to god some of you lot just watch football and have no idea whats going on half the time. It's actually baffling how many of our own fans don't understand tactics, personnel or even how we play.

Someone posted a great post in the Conte thread the other day explaining in excellent detail how we set up like we do and why. We have a crazy low xg against us meaning we defend VERY well and limit teams to long range shots mostly and create VERY good chances ourselves, might not always be many, but they're very good chances.

Im not an expert by any means but if more people watched football (Not just spurs) we wouldn't get so many silly comments like this.

Let me say firstly, I'm absolutely delighted that Richarlison has opened his goalscoring account with us and may he score many more.

Right. That's all the positivity out the way.

I never want to see us play like that again. So far this season, I'm sick to death of having to say 'Yeah, we were pure dogshit for 80 minutes but at least we won'. I get absolutely no pleasure out of winning like that. My God, if we play like that on Saturday the score could be anything.

Kane played as if the Bayern rumours had gotten to him. It was one of his worst EVER performances. I don't think he did a single thing right all night. 57,000 poor bastards actually paid to watch that. I've heard some say Marseille weren't that good, but compared to us, yes they bloody were!

In the return leg, they'll have Alexis Sanchez back in their attack and Payet in midfield!

Is that how Conte is telling the players to play come match-day? Where's the energy, the possession, the urgency, the general plan, the technical ability, the intensity? All sadly lacking for the most part of this season. I'm supposed to feel elated after a win in Europe, not like this.

I'm probably going to get all sorts of pelters for this post, but I've got to be honest. I'm embarrassed to have won like that. Christ, all I'm asking for is to be entertained and I don't think that's asking too much.

It's odd to see us so passive again. We performed well against Fulham and it wouldn't reflect the manager's demeanour or public comments to be so stand-offish. We're like the Mourinho team for far too long in matches. I hope it isn't tactical and we're just still finding our feet into a new season.

This team can certainly step up and become far more urgent and threatening in our performances. It could be an odd season if Chelsea and Liverpool continue to underwhelm, so let's grab it.

Look, I get the frustration with the style of play.

But this is rubbish. Marseille xG for the game: 0.2

They were busier, which is a long way from being “better” unless you really do prefer teams that just run around a bit.

*****? bad losers hope they get kicked out of Champions league ?
We were in the safe standing area right next to them - absolute animals, I never knew they were like that. Admittedly, we have our share of idiots, many of whom ran over to provoke them as much as possible, it was total chaos!

Got annoyed listening to the international feed commentator talk about how great OM were in the first half and should have been up a couple of goals. They created absolutely nothing!

Some of this fan base is really pissing me off. Some of you are really acting like the self entitled pricks we take the piss out of daily in the "let's laugh at" threads.

Firstly the league table.

The 2 draws obviously being away to Chelsea and West Ham. 2 of our hardest away games every season.

We just won our first Champions League game at home 2-0.

Dress all the performances up as you like we the results are the results and aren't flukes. Bad first halves or bad second halves, but did enough to win.

We havn't actually done anything recently to warrant being this super team that should have 70% possesion and dominate most teams have we? Get off your high horses and realise this is a gradual thing ffs.

Its not sustainable mate. We need to control games in order to win comfortably and not rely on the opponent's profligacy in front of goal. Yes it can last for a 4-5 games but to do this the whole season, it would be foolish to think it is sustainable.

We literally set up the same way last season at got top 4 with a worse squad.

"controlling games" is also a load of shit tbh. City "controlled" the game last year and we beat them with more shots on target. City have controlled many games this year and come up short, as have Liverpool. The control of games is bollocks if the team is set up well to counter it. We've done it plenty of times.

It was not one of Kane's worst ever performances. Far from it. I don't think he played well but was by far our most successful forward in keeping the ball up, some things didn't work out but seen much worse from him.

Marseille are a good team, this was a good win. The performance meh. But let's not go overboard.
