The ref was shite let's be honest about it but this situation was caused by Southgate's ineptitude, pick a team that can hold onto the ball and create chances and you're not on the back foot and therefore under pressure thus you don't give the ref the chance to make those dumb calls, wouldn't be surprised if the players are getting frustrated because of the fact that he's leaving players out of the team, player's aren't even respecting him now, the buzz from 2018 is gone and they probably realise that they can walk all over him, that's the sense I'm getting.

I get what people are saying but I think the issues are a bit deeper than just Southgate.

England have been shit for a really long time and yet it's always the manager.

Grealish, Sancho, TAA, Saka, Gomez, Pope and DCL; why weren’t they picked today? Southgate has lost it

Maguire being £80 million transfer should be the moment we all take a step back and realise things are going totally mad.

Reece James was pretty decent in the first half, the rest of the team - MEH.

When we had a centre back sent off, he took off our left back to have our right backs take turns alternating between left and right back. The guy is a terrible manager and a repeated failure of a coach. That fluke run to the World Cup semis has clouded so many peoples’ judgement.

That MBE should be revoked

Uninspiring. The Belgium win was nice, but the result flattered England. First half was very poor. Then the 2 biggest questions are why is Maguire getting picked and why is Grealish being left out a side starved of creativity?

I'm not someone prone to kneejerk reactions. I like Southgate as a person, and anyone who gets any country to a WC semi final deserves the benefit of the doubt. England were missing players and as a consequence were necessarily unbalanced.

However, I cannot for the life of me understand why we set up that negatively at home after beating, supposedly, the best team in the world, and against a side whose main creative talent is a somewhat off-form Eriksen, who cannot get a game for his club side. We had two of the most exciting young players in Europe in Sancho and Grealish on the bench, while we play two DMs, including a guy from Leeds who has surely not convinced in that position. We also play Mount who, lets be fair, is decent and has potential, but is relatively one-dimensional in Sancho's position. Sancho has been ripping it up in Germany for two years.

I'm concerned Southgate has no killer instinct. We should have gone for them tonight. We were playing Denmark at home, not bloody Brazil away. I'm moving quite quickly to thinking he has reached the end of the road.

You getting your info from an arsenal blog?

BBC probably.

Any game that Kane plays and gets a bit isolated with little support, for us or England, their chief football reporter or whatever his title is chimes in with a "Kane looks off the pace and unfit" comment. Like absolute clockwork.

Then they'll share a few tweets saying "why is Kane even picked" etc. Every game he doesn't score/assist a few, I swear. ?

I'm not sure when it happened but Southgate has gone way too defensive, he sets up the team like an underdog. That was great at the World Cup because we were genuinely underdogs and thrived in that role, nobody expected England to do as well as they did, but after that we really needed to push on and start playing like favourites. Southgate is too much of a "right lads, we're not expected to win but let's try our best" coach and you can't do that at this level with one of the top nations.

I wouldn't sack him right now and it was an exciting summer, but I wouldn't read too much into that:

- Finished second in a group with Belgium, Tunisia, Panama ; would've been an utter disgrace if he wouldn't have reached the knockout stage
- Beats Colombia after penalties ; a decent and expected win in the end
- Beats an average Sweden side who have no business in being in the quarter-finals of the World Cup
- Loses the semi-finals against Croatia (the second good team they faced at the World Cup, the second loss)
(- loses 2-0 to Belgium in the third place play-off)

Oh look, sure, we didn't have the very toughest route to the semis. And I'm not suggesting that as a consequence of getting there he should have a job for life, but there are a number of things that can go wrong en route, and have done to England in the past. I think this is the point where the benefit of the doubt ends though. We haven't kicked on and seem to be drifting. There have been a number of off-field issues that look to be creeping on-field. If I were the FA I'd be wanting to know what the vision is from here. How do we get from losing 0-1 at home to Denmark to winning the Euro's next year, because right now, I can't see it.

It’s only a friendly but I don’t know what he’s trying to do or prove. The constant non picking of Grealish is just weird. The two subs he brought on have done nothing. I’m not sure Sancho has even touched the ball yet.
It’s a qualifier.
