Wonder who else they feel could be an upgrade to what we have if not Skriniar?

This is an important point. If we need to sell or loan out another non-HG player, then that has to happen before Skriniar can come in. Maybe that's why Gazzaniga could leave.

Sorry - but this is not true - we do not have to. It just means a non-HG player will not be in the squad if we don't. And I imagine players who we are trying to move on or loan out will be less reluctant to do so when they realise are not included in the squad. Plus the domestic window stays open longer, so someone like Gazzaniga could still move to a championship club after today.

another benefit is if we signed Skriniar all the people who refuse to see the improvement in Dier at CB since lockdown would easily be able to claim any mistake Skriniar makes settling in was actually Dier #twins

Good to know but he's a full back isn't he so don't think that effects anything unless he can play CB in a 3?
He can, and has. Started his career as a CB and was used there occasionally at Man Utd. Very much considered a "defend first, attack later" type of full-back, so maybe more suited to playing on the right of a 3 than as a wing-back.

Very interesting that Alasdair Gold is talking on a different track to his colleagues like Dan KP and the virgins from The Athletic. Ballsy. AG has been superb this window.

Darmian has nothing to do with Skriniar. They needed a replacement for Moses who was on loan last season.
