Tottenham have been blown out of the water in their pursuit of Milan Skriniar as the Inter Milan defender puts the finishing touches on a pre-contract agreement with Paris Saint-Germain.

It is understood that the French giants have agreed a lucrative deal with the 28-year-old which, sources say, “far outstrips” any Spurs offer.

I hope we have a backup plan for when we fail to get Gvardiol too. We were never getting these two, and I don't understand why we don't just front up the money for whoever's next on the list.

Why don't we ever do pre-contracts? Not sure how legally binding they are as the transfer windows are shut.

A little worrying but not surprising.

Waiting for players to be out of contract is very like Spurs, only to then expect to get them on the very cheap, not realising that there will be many other clubs who have the same idea but are willing to pay far more.

Looks like we didn't learn from the Grealish saga.

Problem with Levy, is he could get a player for £10 million cheaper than his market price, but he will then haggle to get an extra million off.

When do we ever get hold of top players like Skriniar? We probably thought we'd got one in Ndombele, but we just paid a shed load of money for a player no other top club wanted. When it comes to Bosman deals Levy won't pay the inflated wages, signing on and agent fees, especially not the ones the likes of PSG don't bat an eyelid at.

From what I understand, players can sign pre-contracts from 1/1 if they’re a free agent at 1/7. These can only be with foreign clubs however.

But on this one, we’re not able to compete with PSG so criticism of the club isn’t valid.

Players are much more clued up now too. The good ones will run their contracts right out and then demand huge signing on fees. Having a year or 18 months left on a contract doesn't particularly make them cheaper any more. It just means the money goes in their pockets instead of the club's when they hold on for a Bosman.
