Am I the only one that is seeing us play with two #10's?

Everyone can see Dele dropping off or running in advance of the front line, but hardly anyone seems to talk about the positions that the RWF is taking up. Moura was essentially a second #10 last night, he was rarely wider than the penalty box and meant to be an outlet for the midfield two.

We aren't really meant to be abandoning the midfield two, we are meant to be trying to creat 4v3 in there with clever movement from Dele and Moura.

I keep hearing about the manager being on £15 million a year but as avid spurs fan who looks at all the different sites but only take opinions with a pinch of salt . Never the less I have looked on the spurs official site every day for many years but I have yet to hear the club make public what the manager is being paid . My guess is those that keep mentioning £15 million a year are the ones that want him out as if to say "look at all the money he is earning and not producing " it is quite sad when you must make up inflated and almost definitely false claims to help their anti Jose agenda .

I've said since the beginning that Jose needed not only the injured players back but a lot of time working with the team on the training pitch to identify who can operate in his system and who can't. We were a team regressing and were making at least 5 major errors per game. Now we are reducing these errors and players are starting to understand their tactical roles.

Now We can start to look at those remaining fixtures with belief and optimism, which I don't think any of us could do back in March.

I was fearing playing West Ham, Sheffield United, Everton, Arsenal and Leicester prior to the break as I felt we were really on our knees and didn't have much to get us out of it. Also we were all over the shop defensively. In contrast most of these others were In good form or healthy.

I now believe we can win most of those tricky games and these teams will be fearing playing us again.

Yeah funnily enough me and my bro were talking about this last night. I think it's also why Lucas struggled as he gets clogged up centrally. With Dele & Lucas we didn't have anyone who could create a bit of cleverness to allow Son & Kane to get the ball in dangerous positions. Something we will need to rectify going forward.

We've been playing like this since Jose's first game against West Ham away (caveat being that we ran out of attacking players in Jan/Feb).

In possession we transition to this 3-2-5 formation:

Lloris
Sanchez-----Dier -----Davies
Sissoko----LoCelso
Aurier---Moura---Kane---Dele---Son
...with Aurier and Son keeping the width and Moura and Dele looking find space in between the lines when they can.

Out of possession we adopt a low block with a hexagonal shield in front of a flat and deep back four:

Lloris
Aurier---Sanchez---Dier---Davies
Sissoko---LoCelso
Moura----------------Son
Kane---Dele
And when we force the opposition wide to one of their flanks, we touchline press with at least three players, e.g.

Lloris
<<<Aurier---Sanchez---Dier---Davies
<<<Sissoko---LoCelso
<<<Moura----------------Son
Kane---Dele

What was encouraging in this latest game was that late on in the first half Davies was suddenly given license to attack on the left and this actually made us much better and less predictable - up until that point we had been very predictable and cumbersome in attack. It also allowed Son to come off his flank a little more and be more incisive from an inside left position.

UPDATE:
I have been thinking about how cumbersome we have looked in attack, and I strongly believe it is because the offensive players have been told to play in narrow rectangles so we can get into defensive shape as soon as we lose possession. For example, in possession Lucas stayed fairly religiously to a 3m x 10m vertically narrow rectangle in the inside right position, and Son also stayed in a similar rectangle out on the LW, with Dele in another rectangle at inside left. There was no positional interchange or diagonal runs. As the players become more familiar with the defensive shape we need to get into when possession transitions I am sure Jose will trust the players to get into the defensive position nearest them, affording them more flexibility in attacking movement. At least I bloomin' well hope so!

If there are two players I'd like to see on the ball the least in a creative role out of our attacking mids its Dele & Lucas.

And therein lies the problem! We need them getting on the end of things and have Ndombele / Lo Celso create in the 10 role.

Don't buying that we are so much more solid defensively just yet. Lots of players are rusty and not up to speed yet. Not even to mention team plays. Our defence will be challenged way much more soon I think. Then we can judge.

From what I was told, and considering Tanganga, I really wouldnt be surprised if Toby is moved on.

It's a possibility, he might not accept becoming a back-up player, but I think less so in the current turbulent climate. Seems almost certain budgets will be tight and transfers much reduced, and with Jan already going (and needing replacing) I don't see both of them being moved out.

Then there is the factors of a) this uncertain time plus b) that silly decision to give him a big new contract. I cant see him being appealing to too many clubs, he's on the decline and many will be priced out.

Not sure what Tanganga's future looks like with us tbh. I think he's got games this season when Mourinho has been desperate for bodies to make an XI in his image. Japhet is physically robust, keen as mustard, and will do anything he's asked to do - all qualities Mourinho loves in a player. I could see him next season being a bit of a utility option, covering either full back or in the centre as necessary, but feel fairly sure JM will want 4 front line senior CB options still to go with.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

West Ham are among the very worst teams in the division.

I'm not ordering the bus parade yet.
No one expects you to IMO. The only thing that it would be nice for people to acknowledge and appreciate is that it’s a work in progress.

As long as he gets game time it’s all good. He’s an unpolished diamond.

There must be incentive based clauses built in one would have thought.

Moura's talent set is least suited to this role, but I think his workrate is what keeps him in the window. Of out current crop of attackers, he's the most likely to be replaced imo.

Yet there were some Einsteins in here the other day blaming Jose for us being currently in 8th

On paper Mourinho is the best manager we have ever employed so I'm genuinely baffled by the reaction to him.
We saw an immediate improvement until the injuries and now everyone's back we've seen a return to that with 4 points out of 6.

If they're that biased they cannot accept that going from 14th to 8th is an improvement then they shouldn't comment as it's not an opinion it's a fact.

Exactly, the first rule of coming into a struggling team is to make them difficult to beat and turn the downward spiral back up.
Mourinho has done this.

It might still all go wrong for him in the future but at this point in time he has improved us so I don't understand the negative comments.

Mate it's just the fans who were completely opposed to him being our manager in the first place take every match that isn't a win as an opportunity to stick the knife in, regardless of any mitigating factors (ie, all our best players being injured at the same time)
Notice that many of them haven't posted in here today?

funny that...

But to not even give him a chance to see what he can do with our club...it's just fucking odd.
