Everyone is saying the transfer windows where didn’t buy players is the reason for our current state. I think the problem has been our recruitment. Who have we brought since Son that has been an unqualified success? Apart from Lo Celso it seems we haven’t brought anyone who the fans want in the first team. The jury is definitely still out on Ndombele and Sess and the chances are the players we do sign this summer won’t all be great buys. This summer is absolutely huge and Mourinho, whose United purchases were suspect, needs to have an almost 100% success rate for us to compete again next year.
I think fans were very happy with the Ndombele signing and also the Sanchez, Sessegnon and to an extent Moura signings (though some felt he was the club taking the cheaper option at the time). Can't criticise the owners if signings don't work out, it's on the managers and this time it's even more difficult because for example you have Ndombele who is a poch signing playing for a different manager, Ndombele was the one shining light during the end of Poch's reign with what we were seeing at the time and now he's not looking as good.
The manager needs to be back regardless of whether his track record is suspect because he's the horse we have bet on. If he convinces the board to sign him players which don't work out then that is his fault and not the boards because on that front they did their bit. Though they'll ultimately be responsible if backing him doesn't work out because they made the decision to change our direction especially going for a manager with different principles, the same way as they'll be responsible for us achieving success if it does work out.
