Spurscommunity when we look like buying grealish:

Fucking Levy, only paying for unproven second rate players and forcing them on our manager who’s asked for the finished article.
Spurscommunity when grealish doesn’t happen:

Fucking Levy, not backing our manager by refusing to buy him the potentially top class answer to all our problems he’s asked for.

You do realise that there are different people with different opinions? I haven't seen many people (or anyone) who was complaining about signing him now complaining that we aren't. Have you?

Does it matter?

Thing is the club are still making all the right noises, still confident, prime targets still being worked on blah blah blah. Problem is there is a week to go and the whole window rests on numerous games of who will blink first. I have criticised Pool for overpaying on all aspects of transfers this Summer and I stand by that. The problem we have is Levy is trying to do the exact opposite, wants everything in at 2015 prices and everything out at the current market rate. As I posted yesterday, it's not all doom and gloom just yet because we still have options we are working on(including CM ;) ) but the players we are talking about are not players from clubs that are desperate to sell, so trying to prize the last sheckle out of every deal, just won't work.

Thanks - this makes perfect sense looking on from outside.

With Grealish - the key question is whether we delayed pulling the trigger at a decent price because we secretly had a better option we now believe is gettable, or whether Levy misread Villa's situation in his quest for the best possible deal and missed the window of opportunity.

Agreeing that the market is as you describe, then with other players presumably the crunch will come when a club finally agrees a fee for one of our key targets.

For instance, hypothetically, if chavski agree a fee for Pulisic, then presumably we could match or pay slightly more (like Barca with Malcolm), and then it's down to the player. In such a scenario, I believe we have a better chance than in recent years of being a more attractive option than the chavs.

On the other hand, if say Shitty agree a fee for de Ligt, then I would not fancy our chances so much.

Whilst it's frustrating, it seems we really do have to wait and see what happens as deadline day approaches and the big players put their cards on the table.

Im not suggesting removing him from his position. I well aware he is the main reason we are where we are.

However we are a different club to that of a few years back and we have to deal in a totally different transfer market.

Levy is still dining out on VDV that happened a decade ago.

ITK is also supporting this. I don't know the answer but we could be asking lots of questions come 9 days time.

We really need to add a rule that prevents people from bringing up the VDV deal. It's an exception and yet people always point to that to justify his dealings in the transfer market.

I generally agree with your posts, but I think that emotion is natural and people should be mindful of playing the ball, not the man. Too often I see an obviously emotional post followed be people using names like "bedwetters".

So True, very opportunistic. People forget than in that Jan window we nearly signed Charlie Adam as the levy special.

UPDATE: Jack has posted nothing on his social media including his Insta story which usually features training photos for over two days
Villa play their first game of the season on Monday. May just have had a couple days off post their weekend friendly trip before training resumes and they lock into season mode.

The record transfer from a championship club to a premier club (not including a club just relegated and yet to play in the championship is the £22m Leicester paid Norwich for Maddison. Ok we missed an opportunity perhaps to deal at £25m, although we don't truly know what the fee was, but Villa demanding £40m for Grealish who isn't even an international is way out of line IMO.

I think Grealish has great potential and can see him being extremely pissed off if Villa dig their heels in and deny him what is a fantastic opportunity to further his career , harbour an possible England call up and play in the CL. Lets hope the Villa hierarchy see this and weigh up the option of taking the money and investing in players that are going to give them a chance of promotion rather than have a unhappy player semi committed to the cause.

I think going back and paying £25-£30M perhaps with performance-related add ons would be fair, given the market, the fact he's home grown, the fact he has huge potential and the fact that IMO he's better than Maddison. Not even mentioning the fact Villa probably still need the money but aren't desperate enough to let their star man leave on the cheap.

If market values keep rocketing at the current rate then he could easily be worth upwards of £40M in a couple of years; better off buying now and moulding him, than hoping he makes it big elsewhere then paying a fortune.
