The record transfer from a championship club to a premier club (not including a club just relegated and yet to play in the championship is the £22m Leicester paid Norwich for Maddison. Ok we missed an opportunity perhaps to deal at £25m, although we don't truly know what the fee was, but Villa demanding £40m for Grealish who isn't even an international is way out of line IMO.

I think Grealish has great potential and can see him being extremely pissed off if Villa dig their heels in and deny him what is a fantastic opportunity to further his career , harbour an possible England call up and play in the CL. Lets hope the Villa hierarchy see this and weigh up the option of taking the money and investing in players that are going to give them a chance of promotion rather than have a unhappy player semi committed to the cause.

I'll be interested to see how much they can actually get for him, as you stated Maddison set a precedent. Don't know how much more he can really be worth as long as he is playing against that competition.

This is an odd one as, even when the ITK said it was dead, I always felt like he was going to be coming when all was said and done.

This ones over for me.we could have done the deal for 25m when villa were skint and we dragged it on trying to shave a few mil off.villa now want the full 40m not going happen
I really don't know, I highly doubt the club was sold overnight and that the ones who are allowed to sanction transfers knew nothing about it before then. I also doubt potential suitors would look favorably upon a club selling arguably it's biggest resource in the middle of an acquisition. The due diligence, going over accounts and assessing the club is not done in a day, a week or maybe even a month so I highly doubt it was as likely as everyone keeps saying it was.

If we were as interested as everyone is indicating we were, there would still be time for Villa to do a deal even if they had a deadline of three days before the transfer window closes to make a deal to secure some cash if the sale of the club fell through, and for them doing business like that, even if it might cost them a million or two is probably worth it compared to pissing off potential buyers, and it wouldn't surprise me if that was what Levy was banking on considering he is a pretty experienced businessman himself.

Is it not the case that the Daily Mail has had surprisingly accurate stories about Spurs in recent times, or am I completely mis-remembering that?

Once again I think the Hotspur Related account has manipulated an article which has a caption next to a picture saying he is our only likely signing. I used to like the account but it is pure click bait summaries these days

I'm not sure but I know the Scum had got a few things surprisingly right over the last couple of windows.

Not seeing any Jack Grealish to Spurs stories on the Mail site. Only thing I see is in the following line in their coverage of Poch's presser from last night:

They are in the midst of a midfield injury crisis and it is understood that, aside from a move for Aston Villa's Jack Grealish, no new arrivals are imminent.

Hotspur Related appears to be getting this from an article published on HITC about 25 mins ago, which in turn is quoting an article from the Daily Mail which was published last night. The bit about Grealish in the DM is just a throwaway line in an article saying that we might sign nobody.
