I'm not reading much into the Eriksen stuff. The Poch ITK sounds very credible to me. We've been here with umpteen managers and Levy still doesn't seem to learn from the past and the simple fact is that Poch's tone has totally changed in the past month and he sounds a lot less committed.

I can imagine us sitting here two years from now reading an interview with new Real Madrid manager Pochettino as he describes how in his previous job he asked for targets but got given something else and didn't feel he was given the necessary backing!

Sigh. Levy has done so much for the club but he just doesn't seem to understand that some of his approach has a negative impact. He needs to recognise when he's on to a good thing, especially now with the season ticket prices going up so much. If he lets this manager and team fall aprt he's going to have a lot of angry fans. He needs to look at Arsenal for examples of that.

I would go as far as to say that in my life time as a spurs fan (Born in 81) we have never had a manager want to leave us, we have always sacked them for either under performing or being Harry Redknapp. Levy will not be letting Poch go any where and for the sake of a few mill which is pittance compared to player and transfer fee's we will have him signed up. I'd expect stadium naming rights announced followed by a raft of contracts being signed.

The story breaking about CE and PSG and then the Hercules 'peeking' ITK seem like a nudge to Levy to remember he has a cheque book.

The negativity at the moment is rife, the positive is that all the itk breaking right now is just the use of the media to finally get to where all parties want to be.

If Toby does leave, as seems to be the case, we need someone of similar ilk and experience to replace him.
An older experienced CH. We’ve done it in the past. De Ligt and another - matey at West Brom? Let CCV leave depending on our opinions - permanent or loan. Dier only needed as a CH for absolute emergencies.

Eriksen is so vital to us. He is the player that we miss the most when he is out. We can even get by without our world class striker, but without Eriksen our play falls to pieces.

Hopefully the club realises that and give him a huge payrise.

One thing that worries me a little - Poch does not have an agent.

Contract negotiations can sometimes get a little contentious. Agents help keep the personal animosity to a minimum - allows the club to negotiate its position without directly insulting the players/manager. I don't think Levy ever makes this personal, it's always business to him, but I would hate to see that relationship strained over the negotiations.

As for Poch's statement about not "demanding" a new deal - just because he does not demand a new deal does not mean that he does not want to be paid what he is worth. Poch puts the onus on the club to match s ambitions/expectations. If the club fails to do that, he is prepared to walk away.

And, for the "winning trophies" group, this is a bottom line business - when it comes to wages, or other expenses, those are determined based on the revenue generated, not trophies. Now, trophies can add to a teams revenue, directly, and indirectly, but those revenues pale in comparison to competing in CL, and in finishing top-4 in the league. Poch has more that earned a pay raise based on the additional revenue he has brought to the club, and the risk those revenues go away if Poch leaves.
And of course all of this has a knock on affect. Poch’s staff and assistants will want increases also.

I said we'd cope fine with losing Walker, I think we will cope fine with losing Toby, but we will most definitely not cope fine by losing Eriksen. He has to be viewed as an exception, just pay the man.

This summer window is looking fucking grim tbh
Sounds horrendous doesn't it.

Can see it now. 3 or 4 previously first team players leaving, us having to get 5 or 6 in and only managing half scrambling on the last day of the window.

I think the reality of our wage structure issues are setting in now. Let's be honest this has been bubbling beneath the surface for years.

Doesn't matter how many times you say it, it doesn't make it true.

The window isn't open yet but it's all over bar the shouting.

Someone piss in your cornflakes for the year, did they?

Didn't herc use a lock symbol? Does that mean he is locked in? (for us)?

Prefer to be optimistic for now.

I can see Eriksen going to Barcelona. He been very open with his ambition and he's openly talked about it being a dream playing for Barca. That said, I don't believe he'll be interested in going to PSG or any of the money clubs in England. So it's Barca or staying with Spurs as I see it. But Eriksen doesn't strike me as the kind of player who'd do a "Toby". If he's told he'd be allowed to leave next season once we're settled in the new stadium he might be a gentleman and accept that and get on with it.

It would be devastating losing Eriksen at this point. He so vital for the way we play and in my mind there is no doubt that he's our most important player. He is probably the difference between a CL or a EL spot for us right now. We are not the biggest fish in the pond and in a way we just have to accept that our best players will want to move on at some point. But the timing is just awful and I can see more than a few wanting Levys head on a stick if Eriksen was to be sold right before we're on the brink of breaking through the glass ceiling.

Wish I'd ignored this thread this morning, Eriksen makes us tick, when he's on song we win, normally battering the opposition in the process. What with Poch & now Eriksen.
Levy ffs :cautious:

Well he does have a big role to play, Eriksen is the most important player in our team for how we play.

We need to start paying these players what they are worth and backing the manager financially.

By not spending more money now Levy will fuck himself when the team deteriorates and falls out of the top 6.

We got lucky with Poch. We can’t keep on getting lucky.

Genuinely thought we were going to be pulling up trees this summer, kicking on and making a statement with renewed contracts and a statement signing.

Already managed a 180 degree turn and now think our whole project under Poch is about to be smashed to pieces.

Yay to the transfer window :grumpy:.

i thought there were itks (probably hercules) in winter stating that we are going to rise the wage cap this summer?
if i were levy i wouldn't start the contract negotiations when we are at the crucial moment in the race of top four as such negotiations would distract players
on the other hand, if i were eriksen i would prefer the contract negotiation to be held after the WC as a good performance in WC strengthens the position in negotiation
so nothing to worry about yet

So u think we can pay him what he could get elsewhere then?
Not gonna happen mate.
