New thread on KUMB kicks off with a picture of Stuart Pearce threatening to punch someone and bemoans the fact that the current West Ham team lack 'toughness', are generally 'too nice' and get 'bullied'. There's a lot of agreement with this point, although a number of posters did identify a host of other shortcomings...
"Add that to pace, fitness. decision making. We lack a ****ing whole lot of things!"
"It's not just the toughness, it's the all round 'will to win' ingredient that's missing."
"It's a mental and physical quality we lack and why we've rolled over far too easily this season, getting dicked without putting up much of a fight for 90 mins."
So far, pretty standard 'Let's all laugh at West Ham' fare. So, who should West Ham emulate? One poster has the answer:
"As much as we hate them, Spurs, as one example, are currently littered with tough playing men, such as Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Walker, Wanyama, Dembele, Sissoko and Kane. Even the likes of Alli, although a kid, is prepared to get proper stuck in (although I don't like some of his antics).
Their team plays like it too with everyone fighting for the ball and not giving a thing up."
Praise is always sweeter when it comes through gritted teeth.
Pearce would have sorted this current Spurs team out though, eh? Apparently not, as one poster remembers when...
"Stuart Pearce closed his eyes going up for a header against Spurs at Upton Park in an FA Cup quarter final. He missed the ball, took out one of ours, and Rebrov scored. We lost 3-2. From that moment I could never consider Stuart Pearce a hardman,"
Maybe not. But that description will stay with me now and I'll always think of him as quintessentially West Ham. Nice one, Psycho.
