He can do it in a 4231 from the 10 position, just needs specific instructions to do so. Would help him a lot.
Yup, he can (fairly well), although then you have to shunt Eriksen out left. If we were trying maximise our squad, we would put Dier in the back three, let Rose and Walker bomb forward, keep Mason and Bentaleb (?) at the base of a midfield 3 with Lamela slightly ahead, and let Eriksen float around behind Kane. We don't have any (very good) natural wingers, but we do have Lamela and Eriksen, who both should be accommodated in their strongest possible positions: 532 ticks all the boxes.

If we can keep on maintaining this work ethic (as a team), I think Chadli might lose his starting place.
He seems to slow down our swift counter attacks. He also doesn't seem to like getting in to tackles or do much
defensive work as compared to our other attacking players.
He does as he is quite a casual player, like berbatov was. He doesn't really go looking for the ball, mostly hugs the line waiting for it to come over. He does have a lot of great qualitiesthough, I think he's the better finisher out of him lamela and eriksen. I also think his technique is outstanding at times, but yeah he does lack drive and urgency.

You're really talking about 352 with proper wingbacks. Would not let Walker anywhere near that tbh. :D

lol...it has to be measured happiness?!

Not saying that, but I think completely overblown praise is just as damaging to fan expectations as relentless criticism.

We're a work in progress right now, and today was a very positive step in the right direction. However there are still problems with the team that need to be addressed, and our next two games will really put those weaknesses to the test.

There's a difference between being happy and being delusional.

Or making out we're going to win the league after one win over a team nobody has ever heard of, and a narrow victory over the mighty Crystal Palace.

Over the entire ninety minutes Palace can feel a little unlucky hitting the woodwork twice and two fine saves from Lloris. Our domination of possession means nowt if we don't score and again today we were almost shafted because of that.

All in all though the team is starting to take shape and play with purpose, with Alli, Son and Eriksen showing great poise and promise for the future. Our center backs had their best game so far as well. The next two games will prove to be a great test of character for the youngsters but if we show the same desire and ambition then i feel we can get two good results come next Sunday.

Apologies to anyone getting bored by now of my rantings... but I have become increasingly obsessed with the correct position for someone like Lamela.

I started thinking about England's 352 in the world cup semi final in 1986. In that game we had Des Walker and Stuart Pierce as wingbacks - not a million miles away from our own Walker and Rose. We had Beardsley behind Lineker (not unlike Eriksen behind Kane), and in the midfield three we had Waddle, Gasgoine and Platt. Now that's what I call a proper formation!

If you've got two very fit wingbacks and three centre backs, you can stuff the middle of the park with creativity where it really matters. There's no need for any of this depressing 'holding midfielder' business. Lamela would thrive in a midfield three with Mason and Demebele beside him. Let them ping the ball around, surge forward, and feed the front two and the wingbacks.

Well, I'll just carry on dreaming :D

We won at home after a Europa cup game. Yay!

Liverpool couldn't. And Arse with a Wednesday to Saturday champions league game couldn't.

And we lasted well and played with energy and tempo.

Long may it continue.

It's nice to have a work in progress rather then regress. And it feels like its a work in progress.

It's been a bad week for the mopers for sure. Those times will return soon enough don't worry

I'm not saying it is mate, I'm being slighting ironic using the stat card - usually don't like an over reliance on them and Modric was a great example of that, often supplying the pass before the assist, just as crucial. That said he does have a more incisive pass than Eriksen, that there is no doubt.
No doubt? We will have to disagree to agree on that. But its a bit of a first world problem to bother with really.

Nice to see lamela clapped off and playing well. Poch certainly has options and decisions to make when we've got a full squad.

He creates more chances, and has more assists...don't thinks its a wild statement mate.

Paul Parker was the right wing back vs Germany in the 90 semi

I'm genuinely excited by the result as it showed a step change in our defensive/attacking balance.

I've been banging on for the last couple of seasons about how we are easy to play against at home because all teams need to do is park the bus, we then commit both fullbacks, both CMs, and occasionally a CB to attack. We then lose the ball and get done on the counter attack.

Today we played with 5 at the back and 5 going forward. Those attacking 5 were able to create chances between them against a 10 man defence with only the occasional support of a full back, or Dier, or a CB. This is exactly what the 'big' teams are capable of doing.
Not only that, we still had Eriksen in reserve and are still waiting for Kane to hit some form.

We were patient today yet did enough to stop the crowd from kicking off and unsettling the team.

Alli and Son's movement and pace gave Eriksen/Chadli/Lamela someone to play the ball to and our back six didn't do a lot wrong.
A solid performance against a team that had read Fat Sam's 'How to win at WHL' textbook but wasn't able to put it into practice.

It's an amazingly exciting time with the new stadium coming as well. By the time it's done we should have a fantastic, well-oiled beast of a dynamic squad to take into it.

New stadium, great squad of young, hungry, talented players; great academy, fantastic training facilities, great manager.

Bright, bright future ahead; going to thoroughly enjoy the road there.

I'm really proud of what we're doing. The whole project is cohesive and well thought through to sustain us for many many years.

We've not been this young and hungry since we signed Huddlestone and Andy Reid, bring on the scum!
